German Bar Owner Murdered On Koh Samui Island

SURAT THANI — A group of Thai teenagers allegedly stabbed a German bar owner to death this morning on the popular tourist island of Koh Samui.

Police say the 46-year-old German man was an owner of 99 Beer Bar on Chaweng Beach, one of the island's well-known entertainment districts.

According to witnesses, the deceased and his Thai girlfriend were in the parking lot of a nightclub on Chaweng Beach when they encountered three teenagers sitting and drinking alcohol on the German's motorcycle, witnesses said.

The German man reportedly became angry and began arguing with the teenagers. The three Thais lost their temper, punched the German in his face, beat him with beer bottles, and stabbed his neck with shards of glass, witnesses say.

The suspects fled the scene after the attack, witnesses told police. Medical workers say the victim died from stabbing wounds. Khaosod English is withholding the name of the deceased until it is confirmed that his relatives have been informed.

Police in Koh Samui say they are investigating CCTV footage from the area of the crime scene to identify and arrest the three suspects.

In a way, this tragedy sounds not too dissimilar to the situation in Malaysia where the two young Brits were murdered. A foreigner getting into an altercation with local punks, and ending up stabbed to death. Big difference here being the German has been around for some time where as the Brits were only there for a short stay, and they were much younger.

I wasn't going to say it at first, but maybe he should have known better than getting into the altercation, being a bar owner and no doubt having dealt with drunken locals before.

It's not mentioned, but since it is a smaller island community, I suppose it's possible that they may have had some history beforehand that could have had a bearing on the situation.

For fucks sakes, remonstrating with three chickenhead creeps taking the piss ain't picking a fight and there ain't a man alive who would not have acted instinctively in telling them to fuck off his bike.

That they were just inhuman dregs too fucking pea brained to comprehend their vicious stupidity would end lethally was his damned bad luck.

God how I despise their dead brained savagery. And the real kicker is, the entire country is populated by these sorry excuses for humanoids little more than skins for noodles and their stinking somtam shite.

It certainly is and The Gent's hatred for Thais in general shows through once again.

A simple Kor Thord and a smile would have seen the guy on his way fit and well.

According to the TV thread, the German guy was a member of The Outlaws- if this is true, a simple 'excuse me' might not have been in his nature.

Be fair. There comes a point in everyone's stay in Thailand when one gets pushed over the line by these people. I don't know the background, but I wouldn't be surprised if these murderers had a history hanging around making a mess, stealing things and bothering people.

And having just read the comment on the "outlaws" I can appreciate the point that restraint might not have been a quality known of the beer bar deceased.

Condolences to the family. There is a late night element in Thailand that is quite dangerous. I happened to be helping a friend at a Chiang Mai emergency room a few years back about 2 AM when a few young stabbing victims came in from rival gang fights, accompanied by their associates. It was a real eye-opener to the gang activity that goes on here.

The point is that guys in bike clubs tend to make a bigger deal out of someone sitting on their ride than most others would (that's assuming that he was actually an Outlaw- I read it on another thread, but haven't seen verification). Considering the outcome, I'd have to agree that the situation could have been handled better...
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

If he was a biker or club member his bike was possibly not " a Honda wave " or similar .

Even in Thailand its not considered a clever move to posture yourself all over anothers
    " big bike ".
I also don't like ppl sitting on my lounge in filthy trousers.

I believe the youngsters were looking for a bit of falang confrontation.

Hope they are caught and dealt with.

If being non-confrontational is considered weak by members such as The Gent then so be it.

I can be as confrontational as anyone else when I get my dander up but when confronted by 3 drunk Thais I will always try to avoid getting the shit beaten out of me and I advise others to do the same.

Many years ago on Samui, I walked up a soi to the main road, to get a M/C taxi, pissed.
One guy asked for a smoke, gave him one, when finished, got on this bike and taken home.
Friend of mine, who's bar I had been drinking that day, was asked for a smoke on the same corner.
He told them to F off in no uncertain terms, he was lucky, the Thai boss of the Soi saw what was happening and got him out before it turn violent.
After that I always got smile from the lads, even sat drinking once, their booze.
He got dagger stares and never regained any respect from them.
All for a cigarette and being a tough guy image.

I got challenged to a fight today. So I was told by a Thai in my vehicle. Apparently if I was brave I was supposed to stop!

Because I didn't "yield" to two guys in a red Jazz with a loud exhaust who literally roared up along side on my left and thought they had some form of entitlement to the half a car's length space between me and the truck in front, even though we could both clearly see the vehicle parked in their lane before the maneuvre started.

Way to many hormones and either on alcohol or drugs or the phone? Then they don't win and...No one to bully in the school yard because they left school so...

I eventually turned left as was my original intention and I guess they didn't want to go my way.

I've been young once and had a car with a loud exhaust but didn't drive like...
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

I have my wife who would have ripped the first guy's eye out with her gracefully manicured talons leaving the others in some disarray.
Would you have phoned her to come to assist you or are you always accompanied by your wife when you venture forth?

The fact is, only a fool or a Hells Angel would respond aggressively to three boozed up Thai males. As most others have said, if one doesnt have the skills to defuse the situation one just has to walk away.

I once witnessed a group of drunken Thai males kick another Thai male to death, in front of a Songkhran crowd. The kicking was horribly vicious and lasted a couple of minutes and was also witnessed by a policeman, who did absolutely nothing to stop the attack.

A falang friend of mine, over 6 foot tall and built like a wrestler was attacked by a gang of lads with knives in Sukhumvit Soi 31, broad daylight, close to Apasits house with dozens of cops and soldiers watching. Nobody came to his aid, and when he staggered over to them after the attack with the flesh of his upper arm hanging off they refused to drive him to the hospital 200 yards away. Told him to call a cab.

The selfishness and cruelty of these people is quite unbelievable.

Responding to the stupidness of these monkeys is falling to your knees and kow towing, Better to walk tall, ignore them and most of all, survive.

Its what we clever one are programmed to do anyway.

Indeed Tax, their savagery and cruel Asian lack of any empathy for we human beings is quite dreadful and justifies our attitude towards them.

But, years of conditioning among decent civilised folk is hard to ignore and there will be occasions when instinct and anger prevail and we throw caution to the wind when pressed by these animals.

I often counsel newcomers about this and explain that they are not human in the sense we are and they simply cannot reason in adversity. However, sometimes we forget and just act normally which on occasion is akin to signing your own death warrant.

Perhaps it's an increasing age thing but I just don't care sometimes.

It's also different in that there is some sort of indication here about how the altercation started.

The other pointless murders you are referring to happened in Brunei, btw.

And yeah, there was a way of him getting his bike without 'remonstrating' with them.

I wasn't there though, so don't know what his approach to the problem was and won't insult his memory with the sort of pea brained tittle tattle that littered the thread about the incident in Brunei.

I bet the biker simply said something like "get of my fucking bike". The problem with Thais is they have no comprehension that to most farangs the word FUCK, in its various forms, can be used as a verb, adjective, adverb, noun, etc and just part and parcel of the English language these days. Its about as offensive as saying "silly sausage". These illiterate better as organ donors than alive little shits hear the word and take mortal offence by it - basically because they are fucking idiots. Remember being on the bike once, mossying alone, and one of these little shitstains pulled out straight in front of me which illicited a loud "Fucking hell" from me. Of course, he then went into death rampage honour offended mode, buzzing up close, shouting and cussing, threatening all sorts, but because he was alone, I stopped. He stopped although he was half my size, and as soon as I got the monkey wrench that I had just bought out of the bag he was zipping off as fast as he could, continuing his volley of abuse, no doubt about to summon his gang to come and kill me.

The fucks kill people, and usually it is because they themselves have done something unbelievably stupid, and in return got a negative reaction from someone, and they then decide it is worth killing over. It's their bloody parents fauilt 100% - doting on the little shits and teaching them they are always right and they can do anything they like.
