    Setting the foundation for that thing must be one hell of a feat of engineering. I'd trust a Western Engineering firm to do it, and a Western City's building inspectors to be certain it's done right, but Thai builders in Pattaya?

    Foundations weren't a problem. They were blessed by a bunch of blokes in saffron dresses.

    Surely it could be several hundred feet below the surface if there is a cliff involved?

    I don't know - just saying proximity to the ocean doesn't have to mean the water table is near the surface.
