The case first came to light when police arrested six outsourced cleaners, one of whom died while in police custody, for allegedly raping a 6-year-old boy in a JIS toilet.

The suspects have been detained since July 14, after the parents of two other kindergarten students filed police reports against JIS teachers, claiming that their sons had been sexually assaulted by Bantleman, Ferdinant, and the principal of JIS kindergarten and elementary schools, Elsa Donohue, who is currently considered a witness in the case.

The first alleged victim also implicated the teaching staff.The mother of the first victim has demanded that JIS and the ministry pay US$125 million in compensation, comprising $25 million in material losses and $100 million in non-material losses.

The police are making no real effort to discover the facts of this case - for instance, despite having been in jail for 20 days already, none of the people who worked near Neal Bantleman's glass walled office during the school day have yet been interviewed by police. Location of alleged crimes

The most recent installment in the string of testimonies on the alleged sexual abuse of a kindergartner at Jakarta International School (JIS) showed that the victim’s genital herpes test may have had a false-positive result.

The SOS Medika Clinic pediatrician, Narain Punjabi, who conducted a blood test on the male victim on March 26, testified on Monday at the joint, closed-door trial of five outsourced cleaners who stand accused of the crime at the South Jakarta District Court, according to one of the defendants’ lawyers, Faizal Roni.

“The doctor said the blood test showed antibodies to herpes simplex type 2 [HSV-2]. He said the antibodies could appear for other diseases, such as chickenpox, and so he had asked the victim’s mother to bring her son back for a second examination the following week. However, she never turned up,” Faizal told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HSV-2 is a virus that can lead to genital herpes and can be contracted through sexual contact. It is part of the herpes virus family, which also includes a virus that causes chickenpox. The similarities can produce a false-positive result in a blood test.

Faizal added that the pediatrician had denied that the victim’s anus and genitals produced a rotting smell, as the victim’s mother claimed during her testimony last Wednesday.

The case first came to light when the mother of the victim held a press conference on April 14. She said she had found bruises on her son’s stomach and anus on March 20 and reported the case to the police on March 24.

The five suspects — Afrischa Setyani, Virgiawan Amin, Zainal Abidin, Syahrial and Agun Iskandar — who were all employed by PT Integrated Service Solutions (ISS) to work at JIS, were subsequently detained. Another suspect, Azwar, died in April while in custody in the police’s women’s and children’s unit.

In the three-page indictment, the five defendants stand accused of having sexually abused the victim twice, once in January and once in February, in a rest room at JIS. The evidence consists of a narrative account of events and the results of three medical examinations conducted at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta, Pondok Indah Hospital in South Jakarta and SOS Medika Clinic in Cipete, South Jakarta.

The police previously said that two of the suspects had tested positive for genital herpes, which could link them to the alleged crime. However, all of the suspects’ lawyers denied that their clients had genital herpes.

The medical examination results of the suspects who allegedly tested positive for herpes were not described in the indictment.

Narain, who has been working at the clinic for 28 years, declined to comment on his testimony after the hearing ended.

Separately, the victim’s lawyer, Andi Asrun, told the Post that he was not worried about Narain’s testimony. “There are still many other witnesses that will testify. He is merely one witness,” he said. (fss)

Two teachers from the prestigious Jakarta International School, who have spent 108 days without charge in police detention over child sex allegations, were told on Wednesday that they would face trial in an Indonesian court.

Canadian school administrator Neil Bantleman and Indonesian teachers' aide Ferdinant Tjiong are likely to now be moved to the high security Cipinang detention centre in central Jakarta to await a trial over allegations of rape against three pre-school boys at the school.

The school and the men's supporters had hoped the case would not move to this stage because they believe the evidence against them is thin and unconvincing

However, on Wednesday, the head of Jakarta prosecutor's office, Adi Toegarisman, said the dossier had been completed by police and handed up, so "now the suspects are the responsibility of the prosecutors' office".

She said her husband had not been interviewed by police since he underwent a lie detector test on July 23, and no details of the allegations have ever been put to him.

She feared for the safety of her husband and Mr Ferdy in Cipinang prison, in which 2156 mainly Indonesian prisoners, from alleged murderers to drug addicts and gangsters, are held as they are tried.

The fourth report was conducted at the police hospital and has not been released. The boy's mother claims it backs the rape allegation.

Three of the same medical reports have also been used in the case of five contract cleaners currently on trial for allegedly raping the same boy. However, after initially confessing, the cleaners have now recanted and are denying any wrongdoing, saying they confessed under police torture. Another cleaner died during questioning, which police explained as a suicide.

The other evidence — the boys' testimony — includes allegations from one that he was raped multiple times during the school day in an open, heavily populated administration block with glass walls which teachers call "the aquarium".
