Army Raids Mo Chit Motorcycle Taxi Stand

BANGKOK — Military officers raided a motorcycle taxi stand near Mo Chit BTS Station today following complaints about taxi drivers charging extortionate fares.

Col. Songwit Nunbhakdi, commander of 11th Infantry Division, led the operation as part of the military junta's campaign to ensure fair motorcycle taxi prices for the public.

Drivers from the Mo Chit motorcycle taxi win [stand] are notorious for aggressively touting their services and extorting customers - behavior that Col. Songwit vowed to eradicate in a meeting with representatives from the win today.

Last week, two drivers from the motorcycle taxi win were arrested for allegedly charging a woman more than 900 baht to bring her and a one piece of luggage home. It’s rare for a motorcycle taxi ride to cost more than 100 baht.

Another strike for our glorious leaders. Last week the mrs was charged 80 baht to Naklua instead of 60, I hope our glorious leaders make the time to look into this.

...I've always agreed the fare in advance.

Occasionally I have been quoted a silly price (maybe ThB 30 for a ThB 20 journey) but who the heck pays ThB 1,000 for a m/c taxi? Did she get a receipt?

Yesterday I jumped in a taxi at Mochit, I had to go out to Chang wattana.

I noticed the Army dudes doing checks and filming taxis.

Anyway I jumped into a Taxi and 10 meters down the road it was stopped by the Army dudes.

Taxi dude had picked me up in a No pick up zone so the Army dudes dressed him down and fuked him off.

I had to get out and grab another.

    Sorting shit out now.

The problem with Mor Chit as a staging point to Chaengwattana, is that there is now no discernible taxi rank at all. We wondered northwards and stopped a cab by straddling the bus lane and hailing him. Giving needless hassle to a cabbie who provides a service to the public, vital because those idiots in Immigration sited their major office in a fucking inaccessible place, is not what I call progress.

And where is that heralded clear out of street trash pedlars from the pavements of Bangkok?

It'll all revert to ratshit in no time. Thai are just incapable of devising and implementing a coherent plan, and actually policing it.

how boring- enough of this overload of trivial shit, and lets see what the junta can do to address the serious corruption issues here. still waiting, but it will not happen overnight or with the stroke of a pen. systems will need to be put into place, that do not currently exist.

    Firstly mate,

You are right, Chaeng Wattana Immigration is in a friggin shit location. No choice but to jump a taxi from Mo chit and fight the traffic.

Secondly you cannot jump the Bus line blockade, Taxis are not allowed to pick up customers who do this. I did this. The Taxi picked me up and the Army shut him Down.

You must walk North to where the Bus divider ends and take the Taxi at the Taxi rank. No biggy.

If one goes before 3.00PM the traffic is OK around 100-120 Baht Taxi ride, after 3 its getting busy.

I left Wattana at 4.00PM, the Traffic was Rammed full so I took the Taxi out the Don Muang Airport and took the A1 back to Mochit.

Much easier and saved a few sheckles. 30 baht back to the BTS up against a ticking meter in the Taxi stopped in grid lock.

One hour to extend my Visa and Two hours back to Silom in the Arvo.

The service at Chaeng Wattana is brilliant by the way, never a problem as long as you have your shit together and paper work sorted.

    Just a crap location EH.

catch the blue un aircond 52 bus , it goes up vipawadee to lak si and down chaeng wattana all the way to pak kret

I used to take it from pak kret to mor chit instead of a taxi to town if time was not of the essence because it was a bit more fun than the expressway and it was not much extra time - though that changed a bit when all the govt offices moved out there and the roadworks etc clogged up chaeng wattana
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Corruption, historically, that they've been deeply associated with forever.

'Tis the deeper aspect of Thai contradictory and hypocrisy.

When did the taxi rank disappear? There was one there a couple of months ago - 4 lanes of them. It is (or was) next to the road.

Alternatively, there's always been the "independents" outside of the rank, touting along the sois of the terminal and inside as well. That will never change.....regulation or not.

    Urm,

You have got that bit of information fuked up Jeff.

    It has changed.

    Firstly,

The Army dudes are there filming all Taxis entering Mo Chit to pick Up Passengers heading North.

Taxis must now join the official Taxi rank that is North from Mo chit station. No more jumping the bus divider.

    Secondly,

They have cleared the touts working on the road side of the walk down Exit from Mo Chit Sky Train heading to the Weekend Market.

Things are happening my friend, one needs to be getting around the place to witness it.

Living up in " Nakon " you will not know.

The Taxi rank is still there in its normal place. North of the walk down from Mo Chit.

Taxis used to pick up punters at the steps of the Sky Train walk down if they could.

That's now finished, the Army Dudes are sorting the shit out when on duty.

I do agree with you Jeff but I must say things really seem to be different this time.

    Things are happening.

    This is fact.

    Fvck that bollocks.

25 minutes from Sukhumvit to Chaeng Wattana on your own bike.

You can buy them starting from about 8-10k. Half way down soi8 there's a gaff which buys and sells bikes off win motosai.

Not great, not pretty but save yourself tonnes in the long run - money and time.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Are you seriously suggesting that I drive a fucking motorcycle in Bangkok traffic like I was some bloody local Hottentot?? Are you stark, raving mad?

The next thing you'll be telling us is that you sleep without aircon, eat somtam pla ra and wai trees.

Ride a bloody motor cycle, indeed. Jesus Christ man, why do you think God invented taxis?
