New site designated for excess garbage at Ayutthaya's main landfill

AYUTTHAYA, 22 July 2014 (NNT) The Ministry of Interior revealed on Monday it was planning to request the use of 300 rai of land in Ayutthaya held by the Treasury Department to make a landfill to accommodate the pressing issue of excess garbage at the province's main landfill.

Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Wibun Sa-nguanphong was in talks with related agencies on Monday about the problem of garbage in Ayutthaya. The province's main landfill in Ban Pom sub-district, Phra Nakhon Si district has already exceeded capacity the pile of an estimated 300,000 tons of garbage is piled up more than 20 meters high on the 32-rai area. Locals have been complaining about the smell and the polluted water around the garbage dump. Smoke and ash also spews out from the landfill as the garbage periodically combusts.

Monthon Sutprasoet, the Director-General of the Department of Public Works & Town and Country Planning, disclosed that a 300 rai area close to the troubled garbage dump site, which currently belongs to the Treasury Department, will be used to relieve the Ban Pom landfill of its excess garbage. He added that the Provincial Electricity Authority had suggested that once the trash relocation got under way, the garbage should be taken through a filtering and processing process to provide fuel and to reduce its amount. -

That dump in Ayutthaya is a huge eye sore and I pity the people that have to live near it. You can see the mound from kilometers away.
