    Seven shot in drag-strip gunfight

A drag strip in Pathum Thani turned into a bloodbath early yesterday with seven people shot. Among the victims was Chatrawat Rattanawong, the 31-year-old son of a former deputy governor of the province.

Police received a report that a gunfight broke out at Bangkok Drag Avenue about 30 minutes past midnight.

"The place was hosting its seventh midnight speed party when the shooting happened," said Chatchai Phrakruthin, 26, one of the victims.

Chatchai said he was walking around the starting line on the track when he heard several gunshots and then felt a pain in his back.

Chatchai said some witnesses told him that a man known as Ken was the gunman.

Police have checked recordings from security cameras and are going after the attackers.

"It's about rivalry between two racing gangs," a police source said.

At least five firearms were used, he said. The two gangs have been at each other since they met at a competition in Chon Buri, he added.

I hear these little jerks going around all the time and the cops do nothing it seems. I often here motorcycles racing as well in Prathumthani. Sometimes I hear sounds which make me think shots have been fired but I don't know if it's just backfires of the motorcycles or actual shots. Seems to be real lot of this up in Prathum. I'm sure many of these troublemakers are university students as there are a lot of schools around and in Prathumthani you often need a car to get around unlike BKK.

Whoa! Waaayyyy to risky for the BiB to be involved in anything like that. It would also maybe impinge on their main priority of extorting money for their boss.

In a way you have to feel for the Drag strip owner/operator. Regular business venture and along come bunch of ego-challenged idiots.

From what I've heard about this and similar venues, it seems the police either can't be bothered to take a stand because it means avoidable exertion and personal danger for no monetary gain, or they know the consequences of messing with events that are favoured by connected kids.

But TiT, so that's all right then.
