PHUKET: A Frenchman has told Phuket police that he lied about being robbed by bandits to prevent his wife getting angry. She would not have approved that he had spent so much on Phuket.

The yarn concocted by Marc Lucien Forestier to prevent his better half giving him hell fell apart this afternoon . . . because the camera does not lie.



His account to Phuket police was proved to be patently false by security cameras and people close to the alleged bag-snatch.

They - and the camera - had seen precisely nothing.

Contrite, M Forestier even penned an elegant signed confession in capitals by way of an apology.

Unfortunately, an excuse that might work in France won't necessarily save a troubled husband in Phuket, Thailand.

The original story was fairly believable.

M Forestier told Lieutenant Chanarong Prakonger at Karon Police Station, close to a particularly nice Phuket stretch of sand, that he had been robbed just minute earlier today.

At the Karon roundabout, a well-known landmark, he had withdrawn 20,000 baht from a bank ATM.

Before he had walked 10 metres, M Forestier said, two men had ridden up on a motorcycle and snatched the bag containing the money, his passport and credit cards.

A little bit later today, confronted with security camera vision of the scene and lack of suporting evidence, M Forestier, 54, put pen to paper and wrote his confession in capitals.

It may be some time yet, though, before he is able to catch up with his wife and tell her what really happened.

His statement reads:

Ii was wondering same thing, perhaps the coppers wrote it and he signed it?

^It struck me because I grew up with French, well, Canadian French as a first language along with English. The mistakes French speakers would make in English are pretty much all the same, but definitely not like that confession is written.

Did he really stay in Room 12 Fantasy Bungalow?

Phuket expat fined B4,000 for false robbery report

PHUKET: Phuket expatriate, Frenchman Marc Forestier, has been fined B4,000 by the Phuket District Court for filing a false report stating that he had been robbed.

Forestier, 54, went to Karon Police station on Friday (April 12) to report that he had been robbed of B20,000 cash in front of the Siam Commercial Bank branch near Karon Circle.

“He said that after he withdrew the cash, he had walked 10 metres from the ATM when two robbers on a motorcycle snatched his wallet,” said Pol Lt Channarong Prakongkua of Karon Police.

“So, we looked at all the CCTV cameras in the area for footage recorded at the time he told us he was robbed, but we saw no robbery taking place.”

The CCTV camera at a nearby minimart recorded Forestier withdrawing money from the ATM and then getting onto his motorcycle – without being attacked.

“In the footage he was wearing a helmet. Initially he denied it was him [in the footage] but finally he admitted that he had lied to the police because he did not want to tell his wife that he had spent a lot of money.”

Why would he say the passport was stolen ?

Definately an insurance scam and a plan to get more holiday time . He's bulshitted the B.I.B and got off lightly there with a 4k fine.

Those credit cards would have taken a beating too if he wasn't caught out by the keystone cops

Bet he enjoyed the night though.
