Bad Bus Drivers Steal From Passengers During Trips

Tourism police arrested two coach bus drivers who pierced a wall behind them on the bus, creating a hole to crawl into the luggage compartment and steal foreigners’ properties. The two suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine use.

TOURIST POLICE DIVISION – March 19, 2013 [PDN]; At 4:20 p.m., the arrests of two suspects on charges of stealing other people’s properties was announced at the division 1 room by Pol. Maj. Gen Roy Inkapairote, tourist police commander, with the police team.

The suspects were identified as Mr.Pachara Kongpara, 44 years old, and Mr.Kraiyuth Pongsuwichetsak, 46 years old, the coach bus drivers of a traveling company. They were arrested at Phra Atit Road, Chanasongkram, Phra Nakorn. Police seized an electronic card of Robo Bank, and a black Live Venture bag from the suspects.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Roy said the police were first notified earlier that day at 5.30 a.m. of the crime. The tourist police had received complaints from several tourists who had been victimized. The victims said there were some criminals mixed in with the coach bus staff who had stolen their property.

From their investigation, the police discovered the drivers were the main suspects. The drivers had pierced the wall behind them at the front of the bus, which was next to the luggage container compartment. Then one of the drivers secretly crawled into the compartment to search through passenger belongings and steal property.

After arresting them, the police took the suspects to have urine tests, which tested positive for drugs. The suspects confessed that they had each used a half-tablet of meth for the bus trip. While they were on the trip, the bus two drivers would use the opportunity when the passengers were sleeping or careless, for Mr. Pachara to crawl through the hole and steal their properties.

The police informed the suspects that they would be initially charged with illegally having another person’s electronic card, causing damage to other people or the public, and possessing and consuming a Type-1 Drug (amphetamine) while driving. Police then sent them to the detective officers at Chanasongkram police station to prosecute.

Is this bus owned by a company, or privately owned by the meth taking thieves.

If it is a company owned bus, surely they would be aware of a huge hole in the panelling behind the driver and are in on the scam.

    Cant trust anybody these days.

Having someone go through your luggage while on Thai buses is nothing new. Unfortunately, more and more Thais are getting involved in theft and other crimes.

Yaa Baa is certainly helping destroy the Thai culture. Ex-PM Taskin's method of eliminating drug use in Thai's youth may not be such a bad idea in retrospect.

Better to end their life young than have them dedicate their lives to drugs and crime.

Maybe when they are re-born they will be wiser (or in a form as to not understand what drugs are).

In relation to luggage with zippers...... Keep in mind that a zippered piece of luggage is super easy to open and reseal. You just pop the zipper open with the nib of a pen and then run the zipper tabs back together to seal it. Small padlocks, tie wraps , belts, all useless, and wont stop a thief or someone planting illegal stuff in your luggage. A little bit of paranoia is better than complacency.

It is common for VIP tourist buses to "loose" your bags on over night trips.

Just another day in paradise right !!!

Something's fishy about this story. Nobody is pointing at the bus drivers.

Often heard a wild story about gas being put through the Air Con system on Tourist buses with the intention to sleep drug passengers and rob them. Scary stuff if true.

Thai isn't a culture, Asian is. Like Western Culture .. it can't be New Zealand Culture, English Culture. It's Western Culture.

Why do Thai suspects always confess? I'm reasonably sure they aren't tortured, but they always confess straight away.

I cannot sleep on buses at all . One trip on the bus to Surratani I thought that I stayed awake throughout the journey , but when we arrived the person in front of me had had all their money taken from their money belt .

Confess straight away and you will get treated leniently in your sentence , sometimes getting jail term reduced by half .
Deny it and you will have to serve the full term
