    Arrested for a short time

Lampung Prosecutor Arrested For ‘Short Time’ With Girl, 17

Authorities in Lampung have arrested a provincial prosecutor after he was caught in a hotel room with a 17-year-old girl during a vice raid early on Thursday.

Police in Bandarlampung, the provincial capital, said that the prosecutor, identified as Anto D. Holyman, 43, could be charged with statutory rape under the 2002 Child Protection Law because the girl was under the age of 18.

“We suspect that he was engaged in sexual activity with this underage girl,” Comr. Deden Heksaputera, from the Tanjung Karang Barat subprecinct police, said on Thursday.

He added that upon questioning the couple, the girl claimed that Anto had paid her Rp 500,000 ($52) for a “short time” session, referring to a paid sexual encounter typically ranging from one to two hours. Deden said the girl was an 11th-grader at a Bandarlampung high school.

A spokesman from the provincial prosecutors’ office said he was not aware of Thursday’s arrest.

However, the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta said Anto would face severe disciplinary measures if he was proven to have paid for sex with a minor.

Marwan Effendy, the assistant attorney general for supervision, said as quoted by Detik.com on Friday that his office was still awaiting further details on the matter before taking action.

“[The disciplinary measures] he faces are heavy, including dismissal, suspension or demotion,” he said.

Detik.com also reported that three civil servants were arrested and subsequently released in the series of raids carried out late Wednesday and early Thursday.

They were reportedly caught in hotel or boarding rooms with women who were not their wives.

The raids were part of a nationwide campaign to discourage couples from engaging in premarital or extramarital sex ahead of Valentine’s Day.

In Bojonegoro, East Java, police raided every hotel in the city and arrested eight couples for adultery, according to Bharatanews.com.

Adultery is illegal under the Criminal Code and is punishable by up to nine months in jail.

Exactly what is the age of consent in Thailand?
It seems to change at whim.

Obviously the punters are dicing with possible problems on a daily basis. Possibly it is kept problematic for possible bribery, though that can't be, not in Thailand....

It's strange: Thais can marry at 15, obviously then consummating their marriage; but they can't legally drink alcohol to celebrate. What's with that?

Can anyone provide the real legal opinion and/or link to the legal documentation?

Often wondered about that in the US.

Can legally kill with a gun whether in the armed forces or just another nutter with a gun (claiming self defense and the second ammendment) but you can't drink a beer until you are 21 in some states

Seems a bit hypocritical when their prophet married a six year old, that's the middle ages for you though

Evidently, the government is firmed in it's belief of this.
Wouldn't want the good citizens of Indonesia to have a say in their lives, would we?
