North Korea under martial law as troops told to 'be ready for war'

NORTH Korea has been placed under martial law and Kim Jong-un has told his front-line troops to "be ready for a war," according to South Korean media reports.

In an emergency meeting of his top defence and security officials on Saturday, the North Korean leader issued a series of orders that included the conclusion of preparations for a new nuclear test, the Joongang Daily reported.

North Korean state media has also reported that Kim ordered his officials to take "effective, high-profile state measures."

While it has been anticipated that Pyongyang will go ahead with what will be the regime's third nuclear test, in spite of international pressure to refrain from doing so, analysts had predicted that the blast would be timed to coincide with the birthday on February 16 of Kim Jong-il, the former leader who died in late 2011, or the inauguration of the new government in South Korea nine days later.

The reports now suggest that the demonstration of North Korea's nuclear prowess is more imminent.

In March 1993, North Korea placed the nation under martial law shortly before it announced it was withdrawing from the Treaty in the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The regime also ordered its troops to be ready for war.

Pyongyang's preparations have been corroborated by South Korean government officials and sources in Beijing, with surveillance images suggesting that the mouth of the shaft has been sealed in readiness for the test at the Pyunggye-ri site.

North Korea conducted its first nuclear test in October 2006 and carried out a second underground detonation in May 2009.

This latest test is in direct response to international criticism of its launch of a rocket in December that Pyongyang claimed was for peaceful purposes. The United Nations Security Council concluded unanimously that it was a test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Lee Myung-bak, the president of South Korea, ordered the military to be ready to make a "strong response" to any provocation from North Korea.

How many times have we heard from NK that they are ready for this or that? Who cares? On the other hand, wouldn't it be interesting to see Iran nuke strike at the Yids and NK hit the South and Japan with nukes -- all in the same day? What would the US do then? Invade Iran and North Korea? Nuke them back? The latter would be relatively easy (I think), the former more difficult - and either would easily create WW3 as the other Muslim neighbours form a coalition. A coalition of Muslim states in that scenario would really be hard to fight and would bog down US and allied forces for years. Who gains? China.

I think they should infiltrate the South and take a decent hairdresser as hostage.

China is holding all the cards in these scenarios.
They certainly wouldn't care for such future military action to occur - not good for business.

There always has been the distinct possibility of things that we might not even be aware of or even consider - China and the U.S. have always held back room discussions, negotiations, etc. China acting as the more powerful arm-twister behind the curtain.

The rest of the shite that we absorb is just an extension of the show.

Fashionable consciousness, is what it is.

And the attention brought therefore, is quite manufactured.
Are starving folks in North Korea any less/more important than starving people anywhere else in the world?

And then add that NK has been promoted as an imaginary boogieman of some sort. The attention and false angst doubles.

You don't really give a rat's arse about starving people, do ya?

Nothing new in that. What is new the Chinese have condemned the recent missile launch. A very serious change from past Chinese full support for NK. The fat cat's in NK are doing what they always have done. When things get tough, threaten and bluster to kill everyone if new sanctions or whatever are imposed upon the benevolent leaders of the socialist paradise.

Next step is for them to rescind the war declaration if "peace" talks resume and the aid keeps flowing in.

Why would anyone want to "start," a war with NK? Nothing to be gained in that misadventure. Let them starve their way to prosperity like they've been doing for the past 60 or so years. They blame the USA for their having to eat the grass in their front yards to survive. A pretty substantial accusation if true...please send all monetary donations to me. Send all food to NK directly, like you could...
donated food is repackaged and sold back to their own people just as it is and was in Venezuela and Africa.

Yup, I feel compassion for the NK people. They don't stand a chance in this life.

Personally I find it rather sad and somewhat sickening that you try to crack jokes about the very real famine that now exists in North Korea !

Of course if you think that the same story coming out of North Korea for two decades is just "Propaganda" why not just do a bit of research? ,the stark truth of the matter is at your finger tips should you wish to seek it ,and if you are of the opinion that its just the US that is blowing the whistle on this man made genocide, with respect I suggest you are totally out of touch with reality ,or could it be that you simply refuse to believe anything if it differs with your thoughts on the matter ?

The whole post is worthy of repeating but the bolded part hits the nail on the head. Every country seems to follow this mantra. Even first world ones.
