I would agree in some countries, but the Thais are too lazy to bother. As long as they have a cup of rice and a monk to forgive them all their sins, they are happy.

As their historic presence might contradict such stereotype, they've [common folk] a long-storied one towards a rebellious and resistent nature.

Most observations might include a surface archetype.

Apathy is more rampant and clearly obvious in "some countries", where a hypnotic suggestion creates zombie-like conditions.

Paid the family 3m Baht by the look of things to get it all to disappear. Notice that you will not find this in the Thai press......
How will this payment avoid a criminal conviction in any way, shape or form? I think you may not understand the difference between civil and criminal law.

^ When are you taking your first holiday here? Try not to fall in love with your first Thai hoe of the trip.

A 61-year-old former Perth resident will serve just two years and nine months imprisonment for the murder of a 46-year-old Hawaii resident in the northern Thailand city of Chiang Mai after making a cash payment of Bt100,000 (US$2,955) to a woman who claimed to be the girlfriend of the victim in a trial that lasted less than three hours.

Cash Payment Lightens Sentence for Australian Murderer William Thomas Douglas - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com
Monetary payments, as always intertwined. Sharing the wealth, a great way for endless judicial delays.

Best toddle along before you make a fool of yourself, again.

what would be an improvement that the blood money being paid was large for the perpetrator, rather than large to the victim.

3 million to the family of the policeman killed by the red bull spawn probably represents about 10% of the cars value, probably less than the cost of the damage to the car. in this context the 3 million is not so much a 'sorry' but a 'fuck off and shut up little people'. its a shame that the courts won't see it that way

Exactly. A significant proportion driving either cars or motorbikes don't have a lisenses or bought them under the counter. This is compounded by insurance companies that don't ahere to the principle that drivers should allow for breaking distance to eliminate rear ending!

It's still a feudal society and the rural/urban peasants of today know where the power lies - as do those who act as puppets to prop it up

The recent case of hundreds of police applicants paying 300k baht to cheat on the entrance exam sums up Thai society quite well, I think.

Given that the man is already dead, what is justice?
The dope in jail for a few years, or the family compensated with lifetime earnings?
Our western justice while righteous, often leaves victims with nothing.
If the cop had been killed by a taxi driver who went to prison, would the world be better off?

^^Yep. Not surprised someone who works as a traditional journalist would like to believe that.

Face it GOTM, often nowadays direct source news comes direct through social media networks and traditional media outlets run around playing catch up. They no longer hold the monopoly on news available to your average person.

When, if ever. will the average Thai reject these Hi-So morons,
We are now seeing times in China that the peasants are revolting.
The sooner this comes to Thailand the better. Unfortunately "The man in Dubai" won't let them.

Knowing that Chinese sissyboy in the Ferrari who killed a policeman in Bangkok and dragged his motorcycle under the car got away with murder for about $90,000 usd (3 million Baht) must be great for their morale.

I have to admit, in my cop days at home, there were absolutely no restrictions on who we could or could not arrest so long as the charge was valid. Imagine how infuriating it would be to know someone did a serious crime but you would lose your job if you tried to do justice.
That alone would make being a cop in Thailand a shite job.

^I doubt that the 3 million baht insult was quite as demoralising to the police as the speed at which the dead cops station commander sold him out to a rich boys family.

Yet Thais are queuing up to pay 300,000b just to cheat on a police entrance exam.

And there you have the difference between the mindset of the Thai, and us.

Not quite... in any organisation - be it a country, a company, a gang, a team, a family, it's the behaviour of those at the top that always trickles down and influences what is permissable at each lower level of the hierarchy.
Shit leaders produce shit organisations because they give tacit consent to the poor behaviour of those immediately beneath them, and those immediately beneath then and so on... it's human nature... and hence the importance of skilful, strong, and sagacious leadership - and it is such a rare and precious thing.

I think former top cop Chalerm appointing his favourite psychopath son to Police Shooting Instructor (after shooting a policeman in the face in full view of everyone in a crowded nightclub) runs pretty close.
