Samut Songkhram police are hunting for a rapist with a fetish for old women. His four known victims have ranged in age from 70 to 47. He killed a 61-year-old victim, and beat a 47-year-old victim during an attempted rape. The rapist appears to be between 30-40 years old, police said.
SAMUT SONGKHRAM – January 3, 2012 [PDN]; a sketch of a suspected rapist of four elderly women was released by police at the Bangkhonthee police station in Samut Songkhram province.
Taking the lead in the investigation is Pol. Col. Praphakorn Riwthong, Deputy Commander. He called a meeting of the detective police team and the subduing police of Samutsongkhram province and police section 7. The commander directed officers to intensify efforts to catch the serial rapist, who has already killed an elderly woman.
Pol. Col. Praphakorn said the police had already gathered enough evidence to create a composite sketch of the suspect, who appears to be 30-40 years old, with a dark skin color and sunken cheeks. The suspect is a dangerous person who has preyed on many victims and if the victims resisted, he beat them, resulting in the death of his first victim, the commander said.
The first rape occurred on January 8, 2012, when the naked body of Ms. Boonaree Komol, age 61, was discovered, after she had been raped and killed. The second time known rape occurred on October 8, 2012, with a 70-year-old victim. The third reported rape occurred on December 6, 2012, with a 59-year-old victim.
The last reported rape was on December 16, 2012, when the suspect beat the 47-year-old victim during an attempted rape in the area of Tambon Bangkhonthee.
“Now I have arranged for the detective and subduing police team and police section 7 to find news about the traces of the suspect in 13 Tambons in the area of Amphur Bangkhonthee,” Pol. Col. Praphakorn said.
“Police have already distributed the sketched picture of the suspect to people in the communities and villages, and if there were people informed about the traces of the suspicious person, I will send the officer to investigate immediately.” The police commander asked for anyone with information about the suspect to contact the police by calling 087-0079989.
The police commander said he had ordered that DNA samples from 80 potential suspects in the area of the rapes be compared with the DNA evidence from the crime scenes, but no matches were found.
As a protective measure, the police commander has arranged for security for nearly a dozen vulnerable elderly women, by setting up their homes with an alarm linked to the police station.
But there are still hundreds of other homes that the rapist could target, so the police will continue to increase their efforts to protect elderly women until the rapist is caught, the commander said.
