Murder suspect killed on way to court

The defendant in a murder case was shot dead and two other people wounded in a broad daylight attack in the heart of Phichit town while on their way to the provincial court for a hearing on Wednesday morning, police said.
The shooting, which occurred about 9.30am, was closely witnessed by a police officer.
Pol Sub-Lt Chatchon Padungpitakchon, 55, told Muang district police the car he was driving was stuck at a red light behind a bronze Isuzu pick-up truck at the Mor Liang three-way junction in the heart of Phichit town. A Toyota Vios car arrived on the right and a man inside fired more than 10 shots with an M16 rifle at the pick-up truck before speeding away.
The gun shots killed Vichet Taminwat, the driver of the pick-up truck, and wounded two women identified as Marayat Yaemsuk, 45, and Boonchu Siri, 50. All were from tambon Pa Dong Kham in Muang district.
Vichet was formerly convicted of murder and robbery and was released from in 2007 after serving 14 years in jail. After that he worked as a musician in a band run by Pol Sr Sgt-Maj Lome Namna, 48.
He was arrested again on Dec 19 and charged with the murder of Pol Sr Sgt-Maj Lome with an HK33 rifle on Dec 15 last year.
Vichet denied the charge and was released on bail. He and the two women,his relatives, were on the way to the court for the first hearing in the trial.
Police were investigating to establish the motive for the killing.
