American booked after Phuket death crash

PHUKET: American Scott Franklin Dean Jr, 31, faces a charge of careless driving causing death after he was in collision with a motorbike on Wiset Rd on Sunday (December 2) near the Saiyuan Rd intersection.

The bike rider, 20-year-old Amnaj Reungtacheewit, was already dead by the time rescuers reached the scene.

Chalong police led by Pol Lt Wuttiwat Liangboonjinda found Mr Amnaj dead on the middle of the road, with severe head injuries. Scattered next to him were parts of his motorcycle.

Two hundred metres further on, on the opposite side of the road, they found Mr Dean’s new Ford car, with a damaged front end.

“The American guy was still shocked about the accident,” Lt Wuttiwat told The Phuket News. “He continued driving for about 200 metres after the collision but finally, he parked and walked back to see Mr Amnaj.”

Lt Wuttiwat said that Mr Dean’s blood alcohol was 50 per cent over the legal limit for driving, but Mr Dean denied he was responsible for the accident.

He was headed north towards the Chalong circle, he told police, when Mr Amnaj, driving in the opposite direction, swerved in front of him, causing the crash.

Police have booked him for careless driving causing death but are waiting to receive CCTV footage to confirm who was at fault.

Pay some money to the relatives and the cops, he should be alright. Not that it's really just, but should be sufficient.

There's no predicament in this country that money can't fix. Since I'm not flush with it however, I try to avoid trouble at all costs, including not driving a car. Plus, I'd be really shit at driving on the left from the right-side seat, just like this dude.

I wonder if he was about to flee the scene but then changed his mind.
