PHNOM PENH, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Thai soldiers have shot dead three Cambodian men for illegally cutting rosewood on the frontier of Thai territory, Cambodian official confirmed on Sunday.

"I got this information this morning that three Cambodian men were killed by Thai soldiers," Prach Chan, governor of Cambodia' s Battambang province, told Xinhua by telephone. "Thai side claimed that those men illegally entered Thai territory for logging."

He added that their corpses were repatriated to Cambodia on Sunday morning.

The incident happened on Saturday on the border between Battambang province's Samlot district and Thailand.

Cambodian people have frequently been killed by Thai soldiers when they illegally crossed border to log in Thai territory.

According to a report of Cambodia-Thailand Border Relation Office released in August, during the first six months of this year, Thai soldiers killed at least 38 Cambodian illegal loggers.

It added that the Thai authorities also deported 68,659 Cambodians illegally crossing the border during the same period.

Cambodia shares over 800 kilometers of border with Thailand to the north and west.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

I wonder what the reaction would have been from the Thai leaders had the Burmese soldiers just killed all those Thai's that were farming on Burmese soil earlier this year.

Moral of the story - Don't purposely illegally enter another country to plunder and pillage it's natural resourses as you see fit. It may be bad for your health.

Imagine the outrage if the coin was flipped. Thais are doing this same thing in Myanmar with rubber, and the government just makes weak excuses.

I thought loggers were armed to the teeth, the reason being what they do is illegal, so might it be a case of shoot first, ask questions later.

3 Cambodian loggers fatally shot in Thailand
    Nov 5

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) -- Cambodian police say Thai soldiers shot and killed three Cambodians who were illegally logging across the border on Thai soil.

The Samlot district police chief, Ly Bouy, says six Cambodians were taking a break from logging rosewood a few hundred meters (yards) from the border when the soldiers opened fire.

He said Monday that three were killed and three managed to run away during the weekend incident.

Thai police official Kampan Runapat said a special forestry task force composed of soldiers, police, rangers and local officials was patrolling the border area in Trat province on Saturday when it came across the illegal loggers. He said the loggers opened fire, triggering a 10-minute shootout in which three loggers were killed.

Illegal timber harvesting is common in the border area.

Up here on the Lao land border not far from Cambodia no one goes into the jungle unarmed, except for me. Everyone knows a farang armed with a Swiss army pocket knife is a match for any 10 or 20 AK47 wielding bad guys. Jim
