First Day on Phuket: Tourist Plunges to Death in Beach Road Ditch

PHUKET: A French tourist plunged to his death from a motorcycle into a ditch within 24 hours of arriving on Phuket, police said today.

Another Frenchman survived the crash alongside Phuket's Karon beach and stayed on the road surface, with the newly-hired Yamaha motorcycle.

The dead man, though, appears to have plunged four metres into a ditch beside Patak Road West - the beach road - outside the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Beach Resort, Phuket's largest resort.

A security guard from the resort telephoned Colonel Boonlert On-Kang about 3.50am when he heard a shocking noise and discovered the motorcycle had crashed on a nearby bend.

''The security guard noticed that the men were talking very loudly to each other as they rode past,'' Colonel Boonlert said.

''The sound of the crash came moments later.''

The men, both in their 30s, were staying at the Valero Guesthouse in Patong, the next beach north of Karon.

Members of the Phuket Ruamjai Rescue Foundation had to descend a sheer wall into the ditch where they found the man had broken his neck.

It took about 30 minutes for the foundation workers to rig a sling to remove the body.

The injured Frenchman was transferred from Patong Hospital to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City, where the body of his friend is in the morgue.

Police believe the pair had been drinking.

Phuketwan has the names of both men but is awaiting confirmation that their families in france have been notified before publishing them.

Can we count this one as murder or something? Leaving 4 metre deep holes in the roads must put some blame on Phukets municipal works??

Doesn't count if it has a little tree branch sticking up out of the crater to mark it.

Phuket French tourist dies in bike smash

French tourist dies in bike smash

PHUKET: A French tourist on a motorbike died at 4 am yesterday (September 3) after he apparently misjudged his line at high speed and hit the inside of a bend in front of the Phuket Hilton Arcadia Resort and Spa in Karon.

Police named the dead man as Ludovi Didier Donny, 37, who had arrived in Phuket just hours before.

His passenger, Jerome Sebastien Heras, 35, also from France, was severely injured. He was taken initially to Patong Hospital then transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Pol Lt Col Boonlert Onklang said that both men had checked into the Valero guest house in Patong the previous day.

Based on the injured passenger’s high blood alcohol level, Col Boonlert said he believed the duo had probably been out drinking and were on their way back to the guesthouse when the crash happened. The bike was a rented 400cc Yamaha.

Looking at the condition of the bike after the smash, he said Mr Donny must have been driving at high speed. He added that a contributing factor may have been the fact that the driver did not know the road well.

Great, then Thailand would resemble the sissy state shitholes we left to come here. It's an adult decision.

Well, nothing wrong with the security guy's hearing. "Looking at the condition of the bike after the smash, he said Mr Donny must have been driving at high speed." I wonder how much he can hear of the alleged 'discussion' between the driver and the passenger when a 400 cc bike is blasting by at high speed?

Helmets protect you when you come off a bike. They also protect you if someone swings a crow bar at you while you're on a bike. They stop the sun cooking your head too. They also stop you being recognised as a farang thus a mark for a fine so easily.

    Wear a fucking helmet.

Yes, you're right. I couldn't care less if all of them had fatal accidents. But as they're born and raised in nanny states, they obviously need some help to stay alive during their holiday. And not being able to rent bikes, could help them with that.
