ICT: Nationwide WiFi in 5 years

Public WiFi internet services will be available in key areas nationwide within the next five years, according to Information and Communication Technology Minister Anudit Nakornthap.

Speaking on the "Yingluck Government Meets the People" weekly talk show on NBT, Group Captain Anudit said his ministry planned to make WiFi available in 30% of the country’s key areas this year.

The high-speed wireless internet connections are expected to be accessible to people in 80% of key areas within the next three years, he added.

ICT to make free wifi service available at 200,000 more spots nationwide

BANGKOK, 4 August 2012 (NNT) – The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is set to make its free wifi service more widely available across the country.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that the government-initiated ICT Free wifi service has been implemented to enable more Thais nationwide to make use of the Internet, narrow the gap between those who have and do not have such access and further improve the distance learning project for people in remote areas.

The PM said that more than 200,000 ICT Free wifi service spots in all 77 provinces will be made available soon, at such public locations as hospitals, gas stations, city halls and tourist destinations.

ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap added that the ICT Free wifi was first commenced in 2011 to raise Thai people’s internet access level while promoting self-learning by Thai students.

He said that the ICT has joined the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) and all telecom service providers in realizing the project.

And anytime you run anything that's not G rated or politically palatable you'll get that stupid MICT3 nonsense, but you can have the convenience of being censored anywhere you want.

They seem to have missed again. Shouldn't surprise.
It's not the overwhelming availability of said internet that is important, but the consistent quality of service and an uncensored and lesser regulated medium.

I don't have an S2, I have an Xperia on DTAC, waiting to change to AIS and 3G (takes a week for the DTAC number to be moved across...).

The missus has 3G on her S2 with True, and hotspots, she is very happy with it...

^Good going. Spent the better part of an hour trying to connect to wifi today and all attempts failed. amazingly I used the Thai Samsung dealer owner for support. There just happened to be a 3BB in the next stall so communications got pretty crazy. After repeated calls to 1530 for help, she finally gave up. Seems you cannot connect to 3BB. Results, we went over to another stall and bought a AIS number and made connection in less than 5 minutes. I now will use this method for topping off yet another indirect route to the Internet.

I have to say that once connected, its brilliant! I was really impressed with the Samsung dealer and her stick to it ness. Never experienced that kind of tenacious intelligent effort here before. We went downstairs and bought her some candy for a gift as she would not accept payment in Baht for her unselfish help. I suppose you could call that "customer service."

Anyway I blame you BettyBoo for all this. You got me interested in these damm phones and the more I looked at them and thought about how retarded I was in not stepping up into the newer world of cell phone technology well I just had to try it. So far its been a bumpy ride, but its getting better. Thanks for the push.

I find the biggest Samsung negative is the lack of user instructions. This phone does all sorts of things not even vaguely referenced in their instruction manual. Actually "instruction pamphlet." One cheap sheet of notes, but still very incomplete. the phone itself prompts you into using different uses installed, but not listed or referenced in the user instructions. Pretty terrific source for away from home. I now plan on getting a tablet of some sort and will use it in my travel to my new rural property. Small, compact and easy access to mail, sources as well as connect ability not easy to find or get serviced in this location. Hope the wifi signal can be found? I hate to say it, but I am a reformed gadget user. I won't change every time a new model comes out, but I'll at least be more than interested.

    I'm not impressed with AIS's 3G. I'm almost tempted to try TrueMove H 3g+.

Hahahahahahahahahaha, it tends to happen; these devices are excellent nowadays, and that Samsung S advance you got does a lot (dual core and fast processor too...).
