AS MURDER investigations go, the killing of Suvichai Rodwimud seemed quite straightforward. The unfortunate police sergeant-major was shot dead in full view of dozens of revellers at Club Twenty, a Bangkok nightspot. Although the bar is normally dimly lit, the manager, according to most accounts, had turned up the lights just before the shooting. That gave patrons a chance to see Duangchalerm Yubamrung, an officer in the Thai military supreme command, having a furious row with Mr Suvichai. Allegedly he then drew a gun and shot him in the head. The police say they have plenty of witnesses.

When that cop was shot, I thought certainly his friends would kill Duang. It didn't happen. The cop's friends must have been intimidated by Chalerm as the witness were.

And now this dirty little turd will be able to commit violent crime with even greater impunity...and all the time know that he is amongst peers.

Police chief Priewpan says Chalerm's son Duang will work as shooting trainer.

Make sure its like 6 inches away. About 15 centimeters. He is deadly as hell as that range.

Lt Duang said his transfer had nothing to do with his father.

"I studied law so I think that I would be more suited for police work and also be more useful," said the deputy premier's son.

He said he did not want to speak too much about the transfer because he did not want to create problems for his superiors.

"I don't want to be a politician because I've been around politics since I was a kid. It's chaotic and I don't like it and I don't know how the current political situation will end," Lt Duang said.

Mr Chalerm said his son had never told him about the transfer. He said they rarely saw each other because his son was not home very much.

"This is not nepotism but he [Duang] is a sharp shooter," said Mr Chalerm.

"Duang shoots very well and has 16 certificates. His shooting accuracy is 100 percent while mine is only 98 percent and there aren't many people in Thailand who have perfect shooting accuracy."

What an endlessly entertaining country to live in.

All it needs is a lifestyle of fantastic motorbiking roads, beaches, palm trees and gorgeous Asian nymphs and it would be heaven.
