Insurgents shot dead a young man in Narathiwat province before setting his body and his dog on fire, police said.
The body was identified by his relatives as Wisanu Sae-Lim, 19, who left his home in Sri Sakhon district on Friday with his pet dog, and went into forest to search for food.
His body was found on Saturday morning by a rubber tapper near Laweng-Dahong road in the district, police said.
According to police, Wisanu went hunting on Friday night, taking two guns and a motorcycle with him. He was believed to have been shot three times by insurgents before being cut in the head by an axe.
His dog was believed to have been beaten to death, police said.
Relatives of Wisanu were able to identify his body, which was wholly burnt and unrecognisable, only because they remembered his motorcycle, police said.
