P.S. I just checked and it appears that Thailand and Norway have a prisoner transfer treaty.

    Department of Corrections :Thailand

If the manslaughter sticks he (in theory) could get a 10-15 year sentence, maybe do half, get transferred to Norway, which may let him out early.

^ Your theory does sound plausible and would explain why nothing was done to investigate her disappearance in 2009.

However, I think you are wrong that a person who has been set up would admit guilt to reduce a sentence so quickly. I think that most people would strongly protest their innocence due to the anger and disbelief of something like that happening. Especially when the reasons why someone might set you up are so obvious, as you have pointed out above. Also, if the reason for the raid WAS only down to the DSI intervening in the case (as reported) then it shows that the Phuket police didn't have any intent to do the raid and therefore set him up.

Geez, just looked up the Norwegian prison system:

Norway's controversial 'cushy prison' experiment - could it catch on in the UK? | Mail Online

I guess Norway has the cushiest prison system in the world. Like they get saunas, and sunbeds and stuff. He may be better off, since he just lost all his property in Thailand.

P.S. yes, I know I could have added this to another post rather than multiple posts, but gotta raise the post count somehow.

I am not really strong on the theory that he did not do it and is innocent. Simply just providing a possible explanation. But I would see no advantage to waiting; eventually he will have to go to a judge. This way he can go to the judge and say "hey look, I cooperated with law enforcement from the very beginning."

If I was set up I would protest my innocence to the very end. There no way I would go down as a girlfriend murderer if I hadn't done it. I would rather take the chance that the truth would one day come out.

If he has done it, he would want to make sure the body was never found so he could carry on collecting rent from the properties in her name for as long as possible. That might explain why he would keep the body in the house and then slowly dispose of it bit by bit so it could never be identified. As soon as she is pronounced dead, the police husband will get the properties and KBB won't be able to buy his new cars any more. Still doesn't explain why the police husband didn't call for an investigation in 2009.

Yeah but she had a son with him, you would think that even if she had left him he would of noticed she had gone missing. The family would surely have contacted him too. It's plausible I suppose that he had no contact with her whatsoever and didn't notice, but seems unlikely. Maybe he just didn't care and the police were unwilling to start an investigation in case it implicated him, he would afterall get the properties if he waited long enough and she wasn't found or if he wasn't blamed.

Both scenarios, it was in his best interest to confess to killing her
I went a bit further with one spider who said it was ok because it was consensual...something about his young son, marsbars and handjobs.

I think you are bang on here, in a game theory scenario he is better off copping to an accidental death in both cases. Nobody has said he was dumb, maybe he was smart enough to figure that out quickly.

Yes, but it may surprise you to discover that the way the Thai Police and the way the LAPD conduct investigations may vary a little.
    Thats true,

when the thai police do an exjudicual killing, they shoot you dead, plant drugs and say its a drug gang killing

when the LAPD do an extjudical killing, they shoot you dead, get the unregistered gun out of the the car, plant it, and say self defence.

As for the conspiracy theories, there logics not very good. I am sure that I am not alone in believing that there are quite a few BIB that would consider offing their estranged wife if she was shacked up with a foreigner and had his wealth in her name. But in this case the argument fails the sniff test very quickly.
To get this wealth, our BIB would need the body found, preferably with the foreigner looking like the killer, as has happened here. but for what credible reason would he wait years before allowing the body to be found?
then we have where the body was found... in the basement. our gallant BIB would have have to dump the body in the basement whilst there were 30 other BIB's milling about or dump it in there in advance giving the boyfriend time to discover and dispose of the body.
Then we have the confession, he really looks like he's just had the shit kicked out of him doesn't he? did they threaten him?... something like confess or we open the can of Surströmming?

Phuket Body-in-the-Bin Murder Case: Accused Appears in Phuket Court

    By Chutima Sidasathian
    Tuesday, February 12, 2013

PHUKET: Evidence was being given in a Phuket court this afternoon in the trial of a Norwegian man accused of killing his Thai lover and hiding her body for years in a bin at a Phuket mansion they once shared.

Stein Havard Dokset, aged 50, looked much leaner when he left Phuket Prison in shackles and prison garb in the back of a van today to travel the short distance to Phuket Provincial Court in Phuket City.

The brother of the alleged victim, Rungnapa ''June'' Ratchasombut, last seen alive in July, 2009, was due to give evidence on Phuket today, along with a maid.

Mr Dokset's appearance in court this afternoon is the latest move in the slowly-developing climax to perhaps one of the most sensational murder investigations of 2012.

In February last year, what remained of Khun June's body was found in a green plastic rubbish bin at the large house in the Phuket beachside district of Kata that she once shared with Mr Dokset.

Soon after, Mr Dokset reenacted how he disposed of Khun June's body. But he maintained that he did not murder his former lover.

According to him, her death was accidental. They had argued, she hit him first, she hit her head against a wall and fell to the floor.

Mr Dokset said that instead of going straight to the police to tell them about the accidental death of his lover, he feared he might not be believed.

So he put the body in a plastic bag, shoved it into the green wheelie bin and, over the years that followed, parked it in various parts of the house.

At that stage, the pair were no longer living together but still shared business interests and social connections. Mr Dokset denied knowing what had happened to Khun June.

However, the family of the 30-year-old mother-of-three continued to raise their concerns about her disappearance.

Finally, on February 28 last year, officers from the Bangkok-based Crime Suppression Division raided the seven-bedroom 15 million baht house and found Khun June's decomposing remains.

Evidence has already been taken from pathologists in Surat Thani and in Bangkok. The hearing is continuing.

Phuket court told of family?s search for ?House of Horror? victim

Phuket court told of family’s search for ‘House of Horror’ victim

PHUKET: Norwegian Stein Havard Dokset was in court again today for the second day of prosecution testimony in the “House of Horror” murder case.

    Tanyaluk Sakoot
    Friday 22 February 2013, 06:28PM

Stein Dokset, pictured soon after his arrest a year ago.

Dokset is being tried for killing his girlfriend, Rungnapa “June” Suktong, whose body was found decomposing in a bin in Mr Dokset’s eight-bedroom Kata home almost a year ago – nearly three years after she disappeared.

After today’s hearing, one of the witnesses, June’s uncle Wanno Ratsompad, 42, told The Phuket News, “June disappeared in July 2009. Someone told me that she was in Dokset’s house. I went from Surat Thani to Phuket with her brother after we failed to contact her.

“We arrived at Dokset’s house but he did not allow us to go in.”

He added that June’s car was parked outside and that he discovered it was on the verge of being repossessed because no one had paid the installments on it.

The prosecution lawyer, who asked not to be named, said that the call to Mr Wanno had been made by Pol Capt Asawin Suktong, June’s second husband, who also gave evidence today.

The court was also told of the results of DNA tests on the decayed flesh and bone found in a garbage bin in Dokset’s house, which had confirmed the remains were those of June.

Dokset’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 8.

What happened to his fraud case?
Back in 2012 The Phuket Gazette reported Stein Havard Dokset, was already on trial for defrauding a Swedish man of more than 800,000 baht. Lt Col Boonlert Onklang, Deputy Superintendent at Chalong Police, told the Gazette that a formal complaint was filed with Chalong Police on August 4, 2009.
Not much was reported on that. What was even stranger was that he was still a highway police volunteer, and even more disturbing was his activity at Thai Visa.
George Anderson at Thai Visa didn't have any statement on this guy did he?
