10 dead, 1 hurt in head-on collision

SUKHOTHAI – Ten people were killed and the sole survivor critically injured in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on Tuesday, police said.

Pol Capt Manoon Noichua, duty officer at Kirimat police station, said the accident occurred on the Sukhothai - Kamphaeng Phet road.

One of the vehicles was taking nine workers to a construction site in Kirimat district. It smashed head-on with another pickup truck.

The drivers of both trucks died in the crash. Six passengers died at the scene, Many were thrown from the vehicle by the impact.

Three others were injured and were rushed to nearby hospital. Two of them later succumbed to their injuries. The sole survivor remained in a critical condition.

Police are investigating further.

Usually, in civilised countries only animals are transported unsecured as cargo.

Here in the LoS their labour force are treated as such as a matter of routine but yet they purport to enforce the seat belt rule upon those travelling in the front seats of vehicles.

A tragedy that will be repeated for no other reason there is no functioning law or any notion of health and safety.

Ultimately, a silly country run by idiots for the benefit of the few.

And because they are so stupid no one will learn from this appalling slaughter least of all their ridiculous governments.

That 2 lane highway (highway 101) from Kampheng Phet to Sukhothai is one of the worse roads I've seen. Only 1 lane each direction with motorcycles, those motorized carts, drivers trying to go fast and a lot of blind curves.

Highways 331 and 332 around Pattaya-Sattahip are not even as bad.

When I was a kid, we rode in the back of a pickup driven by our coach for baseball practice, but he never drove fast and was very careful. It takes some intelligence to think how many lives are depending on your actions and to drive accordingly, something that is rare here.

Yep...it's a road that takes no prisoners.
Add that the usual seasonal flooding creates detours and damage that long to be repaired.

They've seem to be working on that hwy forever and a day.
A practical application would be to expand it as a four-lane road.....with the increased traffic doubling in the last 7-8 years.
