Pheu Thai: Prompong seeks roadblock ban

Bangkok Post : Prompong seeks roadblock ban

    Prompong seeks roadblock ban

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit will ask the government to draw up measures to prevent people from using road blockades as a form of protest.

Mr Prompong said today the Pheu Thai party had received numerous complaints about major roads or streets being occupied and closed by groups of people who wanted to promote their causes or force the authorities to negotiate with them.

He said closing off roads had became more prevalent lately and it was causing damage to businesses and sparking confrontations with motorists.

Mr Prompong insisted he understood the protesters but said blocking roads was not a constructive way to protest.

Letting people block any road arbitrarily only encourages mob rule over the rule of law and incites more people to follow suit, he said.

Mr Prompong will raise the issue at a meeting of the Pheu Thai executive commitee on Tuesday.

There have been four roadblock protests in Bangkok and other provinces since the New Year.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

Why is it ironic? He's trying to amend laws to stop any more attempts at Airport seizures, Rajadamnern and Rachaprasong closures. Isn't that a good thing?

Thai-ASEAN News Network - High Living Costs May Spur Mob Demonstrations

High Living Costs May Spur Mob Demonstrations

    UPDATE : 16 January 2012

The general public is concerned that the high living costs may spur mob demonstrations after the government announces that it will float energy prices.

As the result of the free trade energy price policy survey, the public has expressed concern that the living expenses will be increase due to the energy price hike while their income remains the same.

This may cause people who are affected by the energy price hike to stage demonstrations.

The government declared to restructure the energy price system today.

The NGV gas price will be increased by .50 satang per kilogram while the LPG gas price will be raised to .75 satang per kilogram until the end of this year.

Meanwhile, other types of gasoline will be increased gradually. Starting today, the gasoline selling price will be higher at the pump stations. Each station needs to pay .60 satang per liter for diesel, one baht per liter for gasoline 95 and 91, and 1.20 baht per liter for gasohol 95 to support the energy fund.
