Hi-

I have another question too. For those of you who have gone through this process before, what does this mean:I understand the definition of settled in the UK, but how do you get a copy of your passport confirmed as a true copy? Self certification? Just write something like 'I confirm this copy is a genuine copy of the original document' signed and dated?Evidence that your sponsor is settled in the UK. (This can be a copy of their passport or registration certificate that has been confirmed as a true copy, in other words 'certified')
Your Embassy should be able to certify your passport copy.Call 'em and ask.
I suspect that a banking official, Senior Police Officer, Immigration Official, Qualified Physician may be able to endorse the copy of the document but as previously mentioned, always best to check with the Embassy first.
Self certification would not be permitted.
Okay, thanks for the replies.
Answers to the questions are:
No Thai documents need to be translated.
Yes, Self certification of British passport is fine, just need to sign and date the copy.

I think you misunderstand. It is simply a copy of my passport which has been signed and dated by me which is then attached with the visa application.Originally Posted by Mr Lick
I signed and dated every relevent document in my application form, copy of my passport, copy of bank books etc. If memory serves me correctly which it probably doesn't, think i included my original passport in the application which was sent back to me. If no problems with the application and they deem you don't require an interview you will get an answer in 1-2 weeks.
^Cheers for that. I can't include my original passport in the application as I will be in the UK at the time of my wife submitting the application. However I have it confirmed that self certification of a copy is quite acceptable and is the standard procedure.
Having gone through the application and read the guidance notes, it is very straight forward. Just have to make sure all relevant parts are correctly completed and the supporting document check list is complete.
Why do people pay agents a lot of money to do these applications for them?
To save them the trouble of asking questions on internet forums, then doing it themselves. Why do people pay agents a lot of money to do these applications for them?
what's the cost of the application now? I think they pay as afraid they will get rejected than have to pay again. I know an American though who pays somebody 20 baht to fill in his address reporting and 100 for extension application forms! All you have to do is put your name address and a couple of other details on these.
About 32,000 Baht.Originally Posted by crazy dog
People pay agents because of scare stories normally started by the agents themselves, as Poodles said the application form is straight forward, although there are a few trick questions that could catch the unsuspecting out, like 'Are you a terrorist?' which could scupper your chances, although if you keep your wits about you while filling in the form and don't fall for the Governments clever and sneaky ploy to catch terrorists applying for visas, then you should have no issues.
I'm not sure how much the agents charge but I was told by someone it was usually about 25,000 baht.Originally Posted by The Master Cool
Good work if you can get it.
There is a large back log apparently due to the embassy closing down due to the protests.
Most other countries would probably offer over time to staff to clear the back log but not Thailand, that would be too much hassle.
and according to this website you would be very lucky to get your settlement visa within 2 weeks

I agree the application is very straight forward, the use of agents does seem pointless and maybe people are getting wise to their tricks because there used to be an agency downstairs in the same building which has closed down and it used to do a brisk trade even though there was another agency upstairs.
Good Luck noodles
Thanks Red Dragon. Just getting prepared at the moment, she won't be making the application for a couple of months yet.
I applied for my wife's visa on the 14th of July (I done all the work she submitted), no contact (3 weeks) as yet but should be straight forward application.
Together for 6 years married for 4 years with a 4 year old child, she has been to the UK with me on holiday before, I own a property in the UK have work as does my wife pending on visa and the boy is already in school in the UK.
The paperwork I put together was amazing! a nice folder with plastic sheets inside, each section headed original deeds of my house, bank statements, pay slips and photocopies of my last 3 passports with a covering spreadsheet showing number of visits and length of stay each time. I know it's over the top but BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.
I asked the wife to get some photos of us from when we met, holidays together the birth of our son and being with eachothers families, she returned with 8 LARGE albums!! I smiled and thought she is submitting them not me, help yourself. infact that is probably causing the delay, the bastards probably still going through the photos!
WAITING IS A BASTARD!!
I was hoping like Buriramboy said about 2 weeks and we would all be able to fly back to the UK together but I will go back with the boy next week and she will follow when the visa arrives.
I hope you included a photocopy of any original documents that you want returned. Otherwise I believe they will keep the originals and you will have arrange new ones in the UK.Originally Posted by Red dragon
Photocopy and original, they all came back after applying for the tourist visa, tourist visa application was only 5 days to be approved.
Also when you complete the application online and you then chose a date for submitting the application I found the closest date was 3 weeks ago, but you can log in ech day and there are cancellations which come up which allows you to change your date closer to the time you want.
^Spot on.
Where do you have to submit the application?
Hey RD, did you sign all the photocopies?
I signed and dated all my documents and the wife did the same with hers
Regent House
2nd Floor 183 Rajdamri Road
Lumpini Bangkok 10330
All my documents were returned, originals and photocopies, also there is a bank on the ground floor in the building where you hand in the application where you can get a bankers draft from.
