Smile Visa Runs from Koh Samui

    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know where the visa runs are from Koh Samui and how much they cost? are there day trips or over night trips?
    Any information would be great.

Closest would be Penang would it not? Not a day trip from Samui. You go to Padang Basar.

Damn I hope thats right. Havent done one in a long time. But did a few from Samui/Surat/Had Yai/Padang and return. One time over 20 years ago on Songkran day. When we go to Padang and opened the van like 500 gallons of water must have come out. Can only guess how much that van weighed and how much damage was done to the engine.

Overland you have a chouce of south to Malaysia, or north west to Burma. Both can be done in 1 day, but it's no fun and the prices off the island are steep. I always enjoyed the train down to Hat Yai, then a mini bus to the border. Return for a night in Hat Yai, and make your way back to Samui next day by bus or train.

There is or was a German guy who owned a horse ranch that organised lots of visa runs, he was just outside Chaweng and his card was posted all over the place.
I wouldnt use him again though, his vehicles were uncomfable pieces of shit and his Thai drivers were blind, reckless and downright dangerous.

Get a flight out and back, take a day or two out of Koh Shitmui and enjoy the run.
    It wasn't me!

If it's a one off, the Burma crossing can be interesting.

I've done both runs . Both done in a day - back on Samui by 6pm from Malaysia, 8pm from Burma . Craziest driving I've ever experienced . Had one guy stop the van and refuse to go any further ! Oh - and watch your bag at the Malaysia crossing. Like an idiot I left my bag on the bus and had £120 nicked

Gotta agree with Sdigit. Check out the Bangkom Air website.

If you're on a budget, Bangkok Air will hit you pretty hard out of Samui- it's at least 15K R/T to Singapore these days, i.e.

That's the best way to do it in my opinion. Breaks up the journey nicely and you're not cooped up in a minibus all day, although don't you mean bus to Hat Yai rather than train? Train would take to long..
You then get to check out Hat Yai's great nightlife too..

And if you ask the longtail driver nicely, he'll even let you drive the boat over to Burma..

    Bus to Sungai Kolok

One way to go is the tour bus to Sungai Kolok. The one I take leaves around 1800 and gets to Sungai Kolok around 5 in the morning. Take the bus or taxi to Khota Bharu, drop off your passport and spend the night in Khota Bharu. Next day back to the border and take the 1700 to Koh Samui. There are two buses I think, so you have a little variance in scheduling.

I am actually using the Germans service today, as I need a visa. My first time with this service.

I tend to use a guy I know on Samui. If there are a few of us we take his 7 seater Toyota 4 X 4 and if 2-3 take his 4 door Toyota Yaris. They come with a return ferry ticket so you just pay for the fuel and he will meet at the ferry port and collect there as well if needed. Even going alone I don't mind the extra few Baht for the safety and comfort factor. I used the mini bus once and vowed never again. A nice steady drive to Sadao the town at the border, overnight there then back to Samui in the next afternoon. The same if going to Ranong. You have to be mad to risk your life going by mini bus.

Happy visa run is a new operator. They are the only legal (yellow number blades) visa run on Samui.
There start on the 3. September 2013 and will go every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
There having a lunch box for everyone and take not more than 10 people.
Also they show movies on the trip.
I think the price is 1990baht
