Can I get a marriage visa?

Looks like we will be in Thailand for another year or two.

Currently on a Non Imm O multi entry which is set to expire in 3 months.

Have been married to a Thai for almost 7 years. I am in my 30's. I don't work. I have two kids. Married in Australia, had a ceremony in Thailand but am not sure if it was registered - I don't think so.

Do you think a Marriage visa would be better then my current Non Imm O? I am not really prepared to jump through many hoops and if it is to hard will just fly to Perth in a few months and get another 15 months on a non imm o.

    Any thoughts or ideas?
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

    I'm in a similar position.

Non Imm O seems the best option IMHO

    Get another Non Imm O

If you go for a marriage extension you need to show a monthly income of 40k baht per month earned by you alone or 400k baht in the Bank.
You have to jump through all the hoops so if it is only for 2 years I wouldn't bother.

Thetters, I was at Maesai Imm a few weeks back and the boss quite firmly told me next year was going to require 250K in the bank 2 months prior.

You don't need cash in the bank for a non imm o.

Sorry No Thetters, we didn't talk retirement as the boss ( she ) knows I'm just a pauper living in the sticks.

I could have been stuffed with a 20K fine for my wife but they let that go. We just got a marriage cert from the Amphur, certified via a local agency and gritted our teeth.

I've been on a marriage visa for a few years now- not hard to get.

Problem is they keep changing the requirements. On my second renewal they wanted photos taken inside and outside the house, now apparently they want your marriage certificate to be certified by the local Amphur. I also heard they now require the 400k in your bank 3 months prior to renewal- they never used to. Who knows what will change next time around- but it's still a lot less hassle than flying to Perth, unless you planned to anyway.

Probably the best thing is for your wife to call Immigration in Phibun, and see what they require. I get the idea it even varies between different offices.

I was asked if we had any sitting on the bed together. I tried to be funny and asked if they wanted any with me sitting on the crapper. Not a hint of a smile on the officers face.

They've heard it a thousand times. Funny the first time though.

I say Perth because I know that I am guaranteed of getting the visa - is there anywhere else a lot closer that I would have almost the same chance of getting one?

No. Perth is the nearest dead-cert.

Visiting friends has always worked for me. That's through Hull though. They might want a bit more info at Perth.

I think your home country is a certainty. If you go to KL or Jakarta etc, they may not give you the year

Nope. When I was there they gave a guy a year Non-Imm O to play golf. He was too stupid to provide a passport style photo, so the woman cut up the holiday snap he had brought along.
