House deeds or mortgage agreement, I would put in pictures of the house and specifically the bedroom you will be staying in.. as you have to show there is enough room for you to stay in.

Sorry, last bit. I assume they own the house, so evidence they do so - a copy of the land reg. That the house is big enough to house you (plans? Could be OTT), even on a temp basis and a letter from them saying they are prepared to do so, gratis.

If rented, the same about size but something about what the tenancy agreement allows, especially if via a local authority - basically not being in breach of the tenancy agreement.

Anyways, this thread is moving too quick for me, everytime I post a reply, another 3/4 are added in-between.

Theres nothing to stop you getting the information you need straight from the horses mouth by telephoning the U.K. Visa Section of the British Embassy here :

Visas for the UK

or, much as I am loath to refer you to TV, the following thread at over 90 pages covering the settlement visa application has more information than you can shake a stick at. If you can't find an answer here then post a question....it will be answered by someone in your situation.:

Uk Settlement - Thailand Forum

If you phone the number in the first link you do not need to give your name or can give a false one as you are only enquiring not applying.

Good luck with it and don't let the bastards grind you down.

People like to over complicate the whole process and worry too much, first off the form is pretty straight forward, just make sure you can fill the criteria needed as i said be creative but believable so as not to raise any suspicion as in you are going to a job earning a million quid a year like smeg, and you have no worries.

Not correct, i was claiming Job Seekers allowance earlier this year and even though been married for 7 years, cause my wife had no recourse to public funds, i was only paid as a single man.

All four sprogs are away and my mum has a major case of empty nest syndrome. Also I plan do an M.A come October so it will be a nice six months.

Can copies of the Land Reg be accepted?

I don't know why I am so worried some of the horrible Englishmen with skanky bitches you see at the Brit Emb should calm my nerves.

Yes, but you can print them off the internet for 4 pounds. The Land Registry is on-line and as they're public docs, its not a problem. Link here:

You will need to show a secure tenancy agreement if the house is not in your name.
It doesn't matter that the home owner are your parents or not.

I'm stating the obvious but go straight to the near last pages, some very valuable info and not the backslapping at the start of the thread.

I'm submitting my application first week of Janauary - does anyone now if this is a quiet period? As in not to many student application and others etc.

And a question. I need to subject a certified copy of my passport, is it OK to knock on my local police officers door to sign rather than pay a solicitor? If, so how does the Police officer go about it?
