As much as you like - its extra cash for them; best you only get caught leaving the country only and not in it or you most likely pay a visit to the immigration holding cells
I overstayed my playtime for 333 days once and the immi officer at the airport gave me his phone number so we could go out for a few ales when I got back.."Oh, you must love Thailand" word for word.
Mind you, I overstayed a few days about 4/5 times in Samui and on the 4th/5th time the guy barked at me "TODAY, YOU GO PRISON"... I apologied profusely as my underpants rapidly filled up with cack.."OK, BUT NEXT TIME..."
This might be useful information.
I changed employers, and although my passport visa was stamped to 20th July, when my current work permit was cancelled, (at my new employer's request, otherwise they couldn't apply for a new one on my behalf) apparently my work visa was cancelled at the same time.
So, despite the date in my passport, on extension of my non-imm B on 14th July with my new employer and new work permit, I was charged overstay from the time my work permit was cancelled.
14 days, which somehow worked out at 8,000 Baht (at 500 B per day).
Employer picked up 50%.
Ignorance on my part? 'No-one mentioned it' is no excuse, I know.
So in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation.......
Only 4,000 B, but it was the look on the immigration officer's face.
Over stayed 6 times in one year 3 to 4 days each time and they never said anything, Aussie embassy chatted me about it when I got the wife a Aussie visa
I once worked with a guy called Heinz! 'Like the sauce' He used to say (he was german) He was over stayed by 20 years when they caught him and he got the maxium fine. (I think it was about 10,00bt) which the school paid. He's still living here apparently.
thank you gentlemen.. i shall endevour to make sure it never happens again!
I had to pay 12,000 baht once.
paid 7600 back when it was 200 baht per day
With a dithering client who kept altering the start up date of the contract I ended up with a 2 month overstay . 12,000 baht ( it was 200 a day then ) and the immi people at Ranong were overjoyed - Party Party Party for them !!!
Naturally I added to my expenses when the contract started, and the client never batted an eye ! ( he was Korean so I guess he understood these things )
The point is - shortly afterwards I applied for a retirement visa and the Immi people in Phuket were a bit snotty when they saw the overstay stamp in my passport !
Overstayed 14 months years back, 100 baht aday was the fine could'nt pay it, ended up in that nice immi jail for 8 days, then got taken to court and the judge said 4000 baht, payed on the spot then got taken to get a tax clearence cert.
They let me out, took me to a quest house and 2 days later took me to the airport in cuffs(tw[at]ts) said good buy and see you again.
Overstay and over alcohol indulgence to boot! How was the Long Gun Bar?
Nice to meet you mate and happy to see you arrived home safe.
You make it sound like it was no big deal but...
That's a bit humiliatingOriginally Posted by lost the plot

20.000 baht + extras for 3 more glorious days in LOS, a bargain if you ask me
Anyway It was a real pleasure to meet you Mate, good to know you did get home
safe, I bet it was great to come home kiss the bike, and then say hey to the
missus see you again in about one years time Mate.
^ Sorry "lost the plot" if you notice the OP is posting under the nick Nedwalk, and since I mention Nedwalk in my post it would be for him. Another hint could be that you haven't just had 3 days overstay in LOS and haven't met me either, and unless you are sleeping with your bike while your wife is parked in the shed you are not Nedwalk.
Hope that clears up the matter for you, having "lost the plot" already adding confusion would be quite unbearable.
So, you guys aren't really big on making plans, or scheduling things -- I assume this extends to your regular lives, and your jobs (if you have any) as well?
(excepted those in this thread where the overstay was due to situations beyond your control, like your employers, or changing visa conditions, obviously.)
Back in the early 90s when I often popped into the Parkway Inn for a couple of beers and there was this Australian guy with a name I shall never forget; Bruce Balls. He had to go back home to claim his inheritance but he had overstayed for 21 years.
All he had was a small fine but back then the system was a bit more relaxed.
i've never overstayed.
I would have sat there, nice and quiet. Then after takeoff I would have started tearing up and eating the inflight magazine while grinning madly at the other passengers.Originally Posted by lost the plot
What's the maximum overstay fine? Still 20k?
^ Yep, still just 20k.. but the cheeky bastards get out the calculator and start totting up how much cash it would come to if there wasn't a maximum amount..then ask for it! You just have to point to the sign that says 20k maximum penalty to get out of that one.
I have a mate who overstayed two years and got arrested for an unrelated incident (which he was found not guilty). He didn't have the 20k to pay the fine so went to jail for 2 or 3 months. They then deported him, put him on the plane in handcuffs and only the shirt, shorts, and flip flops he was wearing. He was a bit choked they wouldn't serve him a beer on the plane.Originally Posted by lost the plot
He went home and worked, made enough for a ticket and came back. He now works out of country half the time and comes back half the time. He's never had a problem getting in even though there is a big red stamp in his passport showing he was deported once.
