| The Dog | Vientiane Thai Consulate - Embassy has moved The Thai consulate in Vientiane has now moved round the corner to Rue Bourichane, got to admit it is quite an impressive building and a bit better organized than the old consulate. So first off you got to get a numbered card from the guy at the gate, as he has about 3 jobs most people don't get to see him so wander around without a number for the first half an hour, next go off to the right where the covered area is, fill out your forms, stick your 2 pictures on the form, don't forget the copy of your old visa and the copy of your main passport page, eventually your number will be called and you go up to the counter and hand in your paperwork and passport, here's the picture of the place. Now you have to go into the main building to pay your money, they take Thai Baht and only Thai baht, this all has to be done in the morning, ie 8.30am to 12 oclock lunch time. Outside you will find loads of evil thieving samlors, or you can walk into town, it's about 1km, maybe a bit more. The next day you need to go to the consulate in the afternoon between 1pm and 3pm, again you will need to hunt down the guy at the front gate as he isn't there most of the time, get your number from him, the main building seats 80 people, so only the first 80 are allowed in there, the rest go and sit in the covered area, the guy at the front gate then calls up groups of 20 people, ie numbers 80 to 100 etc and you go into the main building and wait till your number is called, being so well organised when you get up to the counter they will ask you what number you had yesterday, obviously nobody will actually remember their previous number as it wasn't mentioned that they would be asked, so now the passport guy has to go through several hundred passports to find yours. The queue outside the Thai embassy at 1pm. *update 15th May 2009* They now have a number machine next to the building on the far right, photo copy machine upstairs if you need copies of your passport stuff, it's 50baht for a joint samlor to the Friendship Bridge if you want to go back to Thailand from here.
