I just this week got my retirement extension having going through the process of canceling my visa obtained for work.
I should add that there is an urban myth circulating that somehow Americans get a free pass concerning their income as stated on the affidavit obtained through the US embassy. I know a few guys who have just put down an imaginary sum on the form and did not have to produce bank statements and got their visas. This is not a general rule. Along with the affidavit I had to produce an income letter from US Social Security and current bank statements.

The poster known as Boon Mee is 100% correct...

There is NO such animal as what foreigners call a "retirement visa".

The terminology retirement visa has been used so long, that even the Immigrations officers use the engrish words "lee-ti-ment weesa", lol....

It is indeed a yearly extension of stay based on "living out the end of your life"....

^Even though the stamp reads retirement. I think the commonly used terminology can be forgiven even by the most pendantic.
