You could go by car but thats more expensive with regards to fuel plus I dont have a car so that means hiring one. I think there are other routes poss Petch to Khon Kaen then to Nong Khai by bus. Trains are few and far between round this way.

Chumpae to Nong Khai, why is that on small roads? Not going through Khon Kaen I guess? Chum Pae to Khon Kaen and then north is all dual carriageway for years now.

Yeah its a backroad way. This is the second time Ive been that way so I think I'll try the Khon Kaen way next time to see if its any quicker.

Nice thread there Melvbot. Yes, the visa run can be a bit of a slog. I like to do the early morning bus thing and spend the night in Laos. Last time, we took the long way around, to get there, and the short way back.
