Laos Visa run, Thailand Vientiane

So you got to do your Thai visa run and your going to Vientiane, first off keep heading for Nong Khai and then you get to see signs for Vientiane, right up close to the Friendship Bridge on the right is a car park on the right, only Thai signs but look for one stop signs and some shop houses and its there, at 90baht per night it is a bargain and he has a couple of nice dogs.

So park the car and pay the moron and walk the 100 meters to Thai immigration, did I mention that the car park attendant is a moron? Believe me he is.

Go and hit the currency exchange and get 35 US dollars in nice clean untorn notes if you are a lovely UK person, now this is needed as you do need a visa to enter Lao, your Lao visa is valid for one month, right you got your visa time to get out of Thailand, for your visa you also need a couple of passport pictures and a photocopy of your main passport page.

Next you got to pay your 15baht to get across the Friendship Bridge, yeah you get a ticket, most times they will bus you across in a fan bus but they also have minibuses as well.

The big bus for getting across Friendship Bridge.

So your in Laos and all sort of sorted out, next you got to get to Vientiane and the Thai embassy, you got to be there before 12 so now is the time to start rushing, prices are all up on a sign and listed so you wont get ripped off like you do in Thailand, 250baht for a tuk tuk to take you into Vientiane, if your gonna fok around and want to go to the Thai Embassy first and then onto a hotel expect another hefty 50 baht charge, but your gonna be there a while

So when you get to the Thai Embassy, or is it a consulate? who gives a toss anyway, walk through the gates and walk towards the mass of people on the left, yes you got to stand in queue regardless of the weather cos you are farang scum, now this is really well organised, you got to give your passport and paperwork into the place on the left, then you walk over to the building on the right where hundreds of people could be waiting and you wait till they call out your name so you can pay the money for the visa you have applied for, could they have possibly designed it any worse than that? I really don't think they could.

So you got a few choices here, Non immigrant visas at 2,000baht a pop and only single entry if your pathetic farang reason is that you married some Thai bird, 1,000baht a go tourist visa seems a pretty good deal if you only want 60 days, probably can get a double entry tourist visa, but hell, why bother.

DD, why do you still need to do visa runs so often?

You have lived here for 10+ years and are married to a Thai (at least I think so)

^What you think and what are facts are 2 completely different things

Anyway so you got your lovely passport back from the Thai embassy in Vientiane, you got your taxi waiting who is going to charge you 300baht for all his driving about, and off you go to the Friendship Bridge to get back across to Nong Khai.

On the Lao side of the bridge there is a duty free and some shops and supermarkets, worth having a look round as stuff like cheese and other essentials that you get reamed up the ass for in Thailand are dirt cheap here.

There is a small fee if you want to bring your car across, just make sure you got all the paper work sorted out first.

This shop I wondered what sort of rolls they were selling for quite a while, pretty sure the main ingredient was papaya

Duty free stuff is cheap as chips, but hit the super market, local Laos cigarettes are 70baht a carton, yes a carton of 200, the local whiskey, red or black is 100baht a bottle and is made under the supervision of an Australian, I am sure that is something they can be proud of.

Then it's back across the Friendship bridge to Nong Khai and onwards to Pattaya yet again.

I'm thinking of a few days expedition up there. Which paperwork is needed to take a car across?

I wasn't aware that that was a payment option in Villa. Is there a notice or something up that I've missed?

The car permit is interesting.
It is issued by the Land Transport Dept.
Agencies charge 200-300 USD to get you one
In Nong Khai the LTD charge 500 baht
You can also get one where your car is registered and one person claims to have paid only 70 baht

So you can get a visa in one day? I thought that you had to apply one day and pick up your visa the next.

You need to get your visa application in before 12, you can then pick it up the following day after 1pm.
