Immigration and Embassy/Consulate Closures next week

Be advised that all immigration offices in the country will be closed next week on Monday the 23rd and Thursday the 26th.

Also every consulate I've called (Vientiane, Savannakhet KL, Penang, Phnom Penh) has said they're gonna be closed on the 26th.

Some consulates are open on the 23rd though (KL, Penang), so it's better to check first before you waste a trip and burn another day on your visa run.

I would advise that anyone needing immigration or visa stuff to put it off until after next week

Todd, that's invaluable info. as usual.

Can I ask,...do you work in some capacity that involves all of this direct contact with Thai consulates?

Nope, I don't work for the immigration or the consulates I just make it my business to know what's what where.

I'll call immigration offices all around the country to find out what they require for different extensions. I'll call thai consulates all over the world to get information. I think I've been to the bangkok immigration office with people over 300 times in the last 7 years.

Shameless plug; I help administrate a face book page called Thai Visa Advice. It has NOTHING at all to do with the forum Thai Visa, but everything to do with disseminating timely and accurate information about visas/extensions for thailand.

It's got about 12K members now and people from all over the country post their experiences, and information about places when they go for a visa run or extension of stay.

Note 2 Moderatorz; if plugging that f/b group's page is against the rules please delete it. Thanx

...true adventure at CW this week!

Visited this paragon of extreme paper and desk snacks to renew my retirement visa and do the 90-day check in: arrived at 7:15 to find that half of Manila and all of Shenzhen had already set up camp in very long lines that extended around a corner and into a corridor paralleling immi offices. As opening time neared, mobs of foreign uni students, Mormon missionaries, Jap tourists and crusty old lao-khao soaked farangs (with minders) caused the line to double back on itself. My thought was that, due to immi closures next week, authorities would open the gates early to accommodate anticipated crowds (5!). I then assumed that all bureaucrats would be at their desks promptly at 8:30 to process the hordes (55!). I wondered if non-numbered, immi-clogging motocy guys arriving with kilos of passports would be told to get in line (555!). As I took my seat holding ticket number 198 (serving number 53 at the moment), I imagined that the 4 immi specialists busily checking and stamping 90-day updates would stagger lunch hours to limit the rapidly increasing numbers of the waiting crowd (). I made it out by 12 due to an unexpected burst of bureaucratic enthusiasm as lunchtime neared.

At my last Jomtien immigration 90-day report, wasn't there long enough to mush up my nicotine gum.
