Thread: The point of the 90 day report

When I worked here from 2005 to 2009 the office staff did my 90 day reports, and since then my visits here have been no longer than two months.

However, I did a 90 day report recently, my first ever, during which there was no check of the address I gave. I could have given anything, and if I had any immoral intent during my time here I'd have certainly given a false one. So what's the point of it?

For appearance sake.

Just a pointless hoop then.

It is useless unless the information given is actually used.

I'd imagine the address you gave them corresponded with the address they have on file for you.

The 90 day report is a waste of time but they have to justify their staffing levels by having us do this report. No reporting, then reduced staff.

^ No, I moved from a central Bangkok condo to a moobahn house in a nearby province recently. I read somewhere that documents proving the address are required. I took them but they didn't want to see them.

Things are going to toughen up, apparently.

In the past, all we had to do was fill in the TM47 90 Day reporting form. But now, at Samut Prakan Immigration office, we are being asked to photocopy the following five things in our passports as well. The superintendent at Samut Prakan tells me that other Immigration offices around the country will be asking for the same as well over the coming weeks and months if not already. Here is the list:

• Front page showing name / surname / Passport No., etc.
• Current visa
• Last entry stamp of immigration
• Last extension of visa
• Photocopy of departure card TM.6

In addition, you may be asked for proof of address. For example a photocopy of your house registration or your rental contract if you live in a condo. They don’t seem to be doing this for everyone yet. If they know you already, then they might not ask you for proof of address. Another way they double check your address is by cross-checking with the TM30 form. Never heard of that? Well, by law, hotels and landlords have to notify Immigration of any foreigners staying in their premises. This has to be done within 24 hours or there will be a fine. Of course, this is not your responsibility if you rent a condo or flat. But, if you are married to a Thai and own a house, then you are responsible to submit this form.

That's exactly what I read before I went. I took passport photocopies and house docs etc. The blog post is nearly 2 years old though, and I didn't have to do any of it last week.

Wonder how the online reporting will be configured for that.

I guess I will just keep going to the US and obtain a new one year multiple entry non-Immigrant O visa as I have done for the last 10 years. No hassles and I am able to see friends and family in some very pleasant summer weather. Even though it costs me more money doing it that way, missing out on all the hoops immigration is making everyone jump through now is well worth it to me.

"Officially" it is so immigration knows where foreigners are located. Unofficially and the real reason, it is a scheme to collect fines if you fail to report. Years ago you could to it at your local police station.

Cheers. It was presumably introduced back before people had schedulers in mobile phones and email systems, so I can well believe that reason and that it used to be profitable for them.

A 90 day report is hardly a "hoop".

It is if they start requiring what Prag is on about. Just another reason to tell you not enough information has been given and sending you away to obtain it. A waste of your and my time. They love the control they have over you. I am not sure if you mind this kind of being fucked with Fondles, but I call it a hurdle and would rather go around if there is an easier way.

Your choice. Photo copy a few pages from passport or leave country every 90 days to rest 90 day count.

When you receive a work permit here it clearly indicates where you should be during the working hours that your employer specifies and according to what is written on that work permit.

As the labour/ immigration office does not open after hours how the fuck are you supposed to report without breaking the terms and conditions as indicated on your work permit.

And the police still come around here every year and ask for copies of ones passport pages. Same same copper has been doing it for the last 11 years that I recall.

There is no requirement for any paperwork all you do is hand them the passport it is scanned and a printer spits out a sheet of paper, a part of that paper with the next reporting date is torn (cut) off and stapled into the passport.

Couldnt be easier and takes less than 5 min.

It is when the round trip takes 4 hours. That was for me but I'm sure others took longer.

I WASTED half a day the only time I have done it.

Maybe I should relocate to another area where the service is in 5 minutes.

FFS even 7 eleven does not give that service after they have cleared phone and electrical bills.
