We're going to the UK for 2 months in July so she needs a tourist visa.
No worries.
Onto the VFS website, sort out all the documentation required, including bank details, sponsorship letter etc etc.
Arrange an appointment at the VFS offices in Chiang Mai for 12.30 yesterday.
Sunday we drive down to Noons place to stay overnight with intention of getting to the VFS office in plenty of time on the Monday.
Now, everyone we spoke to recounted horror stories of queuing up at 3 in the morning or even one bloke who got someone to be there at midnight.
"Yes", I said "but we've got an appointment."
Laughter all round. "This is Thailand. First come first served. Get there early and so on and so on."
Well bugger that I'm not going to sit there all night but we will rock up early and so we did.
10.00 Monday morning we presented ourselves to the pleasant little security guard with our papers in hand. He looked and frowned. "your appointment is at 12.30. You come back at 12.15"
Oh.
Ok we'll go and get a coffee.
Now the good news.................
12.15 we turn up again.
Went in, sat down, got called to cubicle 3, went through all the documents, went and did the biometric profile and we were out of there by 12.48.
Bloody excellent.
Passport and original to be posted back to us via EMS in 2 weeks.
Perfect.
A pleasant surprise.
I said to the guy who'd dealt with us in cubicle 3, "this is a very good service. Is it a new system?"
"Yes, but remember this isn't Bangkok." he replied with a grin.
