Can I just get my Son a UK Passport while in UK?

Maybe someone can point me to their previous thread on this one?

I want to apply for a UK holiday Visa for my Wife and Son. The plan would be to take them both over for a holiday on their Thai Passports.

Can I process them at the same time or do I need to do this separately?

While in UK I would like to get my Son a UK passport. The idea is that this would be an easier process that doing it from Thailand.

    Am I dreaming?
    Lang may yer lum reek...

    Born here?
    Registered birth with UK embassy?

To be honest I don't know but I assume some hurdles to be jumped.

As long as it doesn't ruin your holiday?

You'd need to take a certified translation of his Thai birth certificate. If there's a problem sorting it out in the UK might be a problem. I got my kids done here. Quite straight forward.

If he has a UK passport before he goes then no need for a visa.

Yes born in Thailand. We went to the Embassy to register him and they said it can be done at any time online with no time restrictions. So yeah, I will do that first.

Should only take 5 hours with a pre booked appointment.

    Register a birth abroad
You must register your child’s birth according to the regulations in the country where the child was born. They’ll give you a local birth certificate.
This local birth certificate should be accepted in the UK, eg when you apply for a passport or register with a school or doctor. You might need to have it translated and certified if it isn’t in English.

Once you’ve registered locally you may also be able to register the birth with the UK authorities. You can only do this if the child was born on or after 1 January 1983.

You don’t need to register with the UK authorities but it means:

the birth will be recorded with the General Register Offices or at the National Records Office of Scotland
you can order a consular birth registration certificate
You can still apply for a UK passport for your child even if you don’t register the birth in the UK.
    So Should be fine, right?

I did my kids before they brought in the agency that now does it. It took about a month to do. No idea how long the agency takes.

I'm all over the government site at the moment and it does seem a lot more straight forward than last time I checked.

Do I need to present the wee man in BKK as part of the application? Visa or Passport?

I'll get on top of this as soon as I get home from Korea.

    Cheers.

Actually, if your son is a British citizen, he doesn't need any passport to enter the UK. The only problem might be checking in with an airline that doesn't understand this.

You give them what they want and they'll give you what you want. As others have said, straightforward and quicker and cheaper since you won't need a visa for the small guy. And DIY, don't pay xxk to agents for a coffee as they check your application.

I've done this for 4 kids in Thailand, China and Singapore numerous times due to all the renewals, my experience the agency makes it easier. You could also be issued a same day emergency passport, if all the documentation is up to scratch.

Having your kids on a UK passport also makes getting your spouse a visa a little easier, she would also be eligible for a "right to reside " visa, if this is still as it used to be.

Not sure if the process is going to be any easier in the UK, in my experience there are offten a lot of jobsworths making it difficult.

My eldest two now live back in the UK and have both renewed their UK passports there, originals were issued in Thailand and Singapore. It's just a matter of crossing all the t's.....etc.
