    Thai Embassy in London. Today

Finally got roped into going by train up to London, with Mary and renewing My Sons expired Thai Passport, it expired over 3 years ago.
After sitting in front of Thai Embassy staff processing the que, I chatted to My Son to pass the time , about how he must observe the subservience and grovelling around him to Thai civil servants.
London embassy staff, they heard and understood Me.
    We have no appointment.
So eventually the Passport renewal room empties and it is only Me sitting alone in the room.
My Mary has fled and is hiding from authority, Thai authority.
So I go and get her with a face of thunder , and low and behold the Embassy staff serve us with no fuss.
    Everything goes smoothly.
The room that renews passports renews Thai ID cards as well.
They overheard Me telling My Son that He does not one of those ID cards, because He could end up in the Army.
Give them their due, they overheard My background chatter ( their English is good) and upon processing His passport renewal , they explained that his new passport is for 5 years.
To renew again He must be registered in the Blue book in Thailand, and have a Thai issued ID card , to retain his next Thai Passport.
They informed Me that at 18 in the unlikely event that He would be called up, He just needs to inform them that he is in full time education abroad, and is exempt.
    No ploblem.
    Brilliant day out in London.

Personally, I believe the staff in Thai Consulates within western countires are far different than in SEA. I have never had any problems obtaining the visas I need and have found the staff to be very helpful.

When I had not received my one year, multiple entry Non-Immigrant O visa within the regular 10 working days, I emailed the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles and received a very cordial reply apologizing for the delay and that my visa had been approved and that I would receive my passport in the mail the following day. Low and behold, that is exactly what happened.

I only wish all Thai Consulates would have this kind of customer service.

Now why you would purposely try to rile up any thai officialdom is beyond me. Perhaps to show your superiority over them, I dunno.

Your wife pulled that typical thai reaction fearful of any thai in a too tight uniform so that was predictable..

The thing is any thai (even a half-breed one) can fly into thailand on an expired thai passport with any hiccups at all. They can't be denied entry into the country.. A thai friend of mine who also is a US citizen recently flew in on a thai passport which had expired 10 years ago! No problem at all. ..

I think all in all, the thai staff served you without any hiccups, even though you were lipping off for all to hear.

Try something like that here with the officialdom and you'd be sitting in that office until it closed and still not waited on. Oh, that's right, you were lipping off in engrish not thai.. Strike that last comment..

Glad it was a brilliant day out..

Renewed my sons passport a few days ago. Couldn't believe it when they said he had to sign it, he's 6 years old!!

I pointed out that he doesn't have a signature what with him being 6 and all so they told him to write his name in block capitals. It looks fucking ridiculous.

Was in and out in less than 30 minutes and we'd forgotten to bring his birth certificate with us so no complaints. Staff were brilliant.

My Son also had to sign His name, so I told Him to " Just write your name, like you do at school,"
They also had a scanner that had already been on his hands as they recorded his finger prints.
Where did you renew your sons passport?

My kids will never have a Thai passsport - No point!
It's useless and in only applied for in the majority of cases to keep the Thai missus happy.

Sorry mate, should have pointed out I was being slightly off topic as I was in Phuket town not London.

His first passport in London was a bit of a nightmare if I remember. The Thai embassy is this lovely, massive, palatial West London building, and the visa section was this shoe box sized, stinky little shit hole in the basement, with no room to breath.

In Phuket town however they were fantastic. They helped with all the forms and we were in and out in no time. Passport turned up 3 or 4 days later.

I don't understand that post. How about being able to stay in Thailand for as long as they want without a visa?

As for the second sentence I'm afraid I'd swap the word 'majority' for 'nobody I've ever heard of'. I reckon you'll find most people have far more practical, logical reasons than the one you mention.

Indeed, been here 11 years in this job, my kids born in London got Thai passports, no need for visa or any shit like that. Can also travel visa free to some places such as Vietnam.

Gives them future options such as owning land for me should the need arise.

That was a waste of a post by the ranter.....
