    Of course, the intelligent thing to do in respect of those countries which are not Asiatic in physiognomy and do not pose a security threat would be to scrap the visa requirement entirely for stays of up to 3 months ( essentially EU countries, Septics and Antipodeans ).

    But that would be too simple.

    Simply increase the tax on air travel and raise the fees for those seeking entry for purposes other than to visit in order to make up lost revenue.

    It's hardly rocket science but they do seem to make heavy weather of everything they try to do. Silly people but there it is. And abandon this silly reporting requirement which achieves nothing.

    That would make Thailand an even more attractive destination, even for EU emerging countries such as Romania and Bulgaria.

    its hype;
    anyone planing a trip with airfare and hotels an $$ each day amounting to thousands of $$ could care less if they can save $40.
    even for a family fo 4..

    These are just media hungry middle management thaiz from the "Ministry of Silly Talks" spouting off.

    Remember when one wing-nut immigrations official in Chiang Mai said foreigners "could someday do 90 day reporting at 7/11". Another goof-ball immigrations official in Phuket came out with the sweeping statement that "all foreigners must now carry their passports". That one went so far over the line that the head of Thai Immigrations came out a day later and said, 'Umm, no they don't!"

    You need to look at the wording in ANY press blurb. "Contemplating", "considering", "mulling over", "thinking about" are nothing but posturing, fishing, or throwing out a trial balloon to see if there's any flack about it.

    Here's one which rings more close to the truth;

    Nope. Not a source that many Americans read, or maybe they do. Either way, not on my must read list.

    "rickschoppers" - as has been pointed out it is a parody website as a spin-off of the b/s english language newspaper here.

    You'd be hard pressed to find a website which provides more biting satire which is right on the money about this place than Not The Nation.

    The reason it hasn't been blocked here is; not one of the "powerz-that-be" can understand english to the degree they'd see that website is totally takin' the piss..

    Whether you're a born-bred-corn-fed american or a sheep-like, sock-puppet, wanna-b-thai foreigner here it makes no difference, that site is really good..

    Here are some of their notable headlines;
