    Thai Visa obtained in Bali

Bali has an Honorary Thai Consulate so today I went into Denpasar city to get a Tourist Visa for Thailand. Its been closed for 7 days for the Holidays.

Its open from 9.00AM to 12.00 lunch time for applications and then again after lunch for pick ups. 3 days to process the visa.

Anyway when I arrived around 11.00 AM there where only 2 people in front of me so I sat down and filled out the form.

Handed over 1 passport photo, passport, copy of passport, copy of in and out air tickets to Thailand and 560,000 rupiah for a single entry.

The process was absolutely painless, straight forward and a pleasure dealing with the one guy there.

The best part was one could also get a double and triple entry from this office no problem what so ever.

I know where I will be getting my Visa's from this point on.

Go play on the beach in Bali for a week or so whilst obtaining a new Visa for Thailand.

Must be better than going to all those other places and fighting it out with the masses.

Easy couple hours from Bangkok on AirAsia and cheap as.

    Yes true
BUT there is a catch; you must show tickets in and out of Thailand for each entry, dated correctly

Would there be leeway for getting an extension on each of the visas?

Slightly OFF-TOPIC: (still maybe of marginal value)

You have to really watch the "must be used by" date when they issue more than a single entry tourist visa. Most consulates issue tourist visas with a validity of 90 days from the date of application. That means you have to enter thailand BEFORE the 90 days or the visa is expired. Usually this isn't a problem because people wing their way here pretty darned fast after getting the visa.

If you enter thailand on a double entry tourist visa (good for two 60 day stays), go to immigrations inside thailand to extend the first entry by 30 days, you need to really pay attention to that "must be used by date" because. More than a few people in an effort to maximize their stay in thailand didn't exit the country BEFORE the "must be used by date" of the visa and were denied their second entry.

It gets even worse with a triple entry tourist visa, because I've noticed the ones people had from S/E Asia have a validity of just 90 days. It's impossible to get 60 days out of all three entries because the visa expires before you can use that much time.

I know one foreigner who had a triple entry tourist visa. He entered the country, wound the time down on the first entry, ran-4-the-border, activated another entry, and then just before the visa itself expired, he ran-4-the-border again to activate the last entry. It got him just under 5 month (60+30+60) in country, AND he didn't have to go to immigrations to pay 1900 for a 30 day extension either..

Now, there are some honorary consulates in the US which will give you a triple entry tourist visa with a validity of 6 months or even 9 months; IF you ask them too.

    Good luck...

Don't confuse the entry stamp which says "permitted to stay until" with the date stamped on the visa itself which says, "must be used by"...

That will throw a wrench in your gears for sure...

    Good info there.

I'll be returning to Perth every six months for a few weeks so will not need the triple but handy to know all that info.

Today I picked up my passport from the Thai embassy in Bali.

Whilst there I asked the dude about the Triple entry Visa and he confirmed that one must show 3 tickets out of Thailand to obtain one.

No big deal is it. Just buy 3 piss cheap tickets out and its game on innit.

    No problem there.

Did you understand my question though? Can the flights be 90 days apart to allow for an extension on each visa?

Yes In did understand your question but I cannot give you a definite answer except what he told me.

I did ask him if 90 days apart was OK and he replied yes, he spoke good English and understood the question.

But just think about that, if each entry is for 90 days with the extension they would not try and get you out after 60 days. ?

Anyway, its 90 days and then out on each entry.

    No probs there.

Brilliant consulate embassy by the way.

Just a question there terry57; how long is the actual tourist visa valid for? Does it have a "must be used by date" 90 days from the day you applied?

As I said, the problem isn't getting that triple entry tourist visa; it's being able to get the full 60 days outta each entry BEFORE the visa itself expires. Most consulates still only stamp a triple entry tourist visa with a validity of 90 days.

The officers knee jerk answer; show flights in and out, even though more than a few people use land borders is strange.

While I am not one to advocating breaking the rules; any half-wit can go online, create an itinerary showing flights in and out at the requisite times; print the itinerary page and just never buy the tickets.

I've seen it done time and again here in Bangkok.

It would appear the powers that be aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.. Any official looking computer printed booking for flights seems to work fine for them to "tick the box" that you met the criteria...

Good Luck, watch your dates, you'll be fine...
