    A non immigrant visa is good for 90 days. How do you plan on getting it? Wouldnt you be changing a tourist Visa to a non Immigrant one?

    I too don't understand your terminology..

    There is a 60 day extension of stay you can often called the "visit my thai wife" visa.

    You get it at your local immigrations office.. It requires no financial proof of funds, just the Khor Ror 2 and 3, your wife's I/D card, her house book, application etc. It's 1900baht.

    There is also a 90 day single entry Non-O visa which can be had inside thailand again at your local immigrations office..

    At least here in Bangkok you can apply for either from a 15 or 30 day visa exempt stamp OR off a tourist visa.

    For the Non-O inside the country;
    You show the 400K in the bank and the rest of the documentation and they take the application under review for 14 days. At the end of that time, you go back and get the 90 day single entry visa stamped into your passport. Cost is 1900 too.

    Now when that 90 days winds it's way down to about a month left, you go back out to immigrations and apply for a "yearly extension of stay" based on being "married to a thai national".

    That's when you have to show the 400k in the bank has been "seasoned" for 2 months. They'll take your application under review for 30 days. They are supposed to come to your house during that time and check that you're really married, but here in Bangkok they don't do it hardly ever. After the 30 days you go back and get the year's extension of stay.

    Now conversely, in Savannakhet Lao (across the border from Mukdahan Thailand) they hand out year long multi-entry Non-O visas without any proof of finances if you have proof you're married to a thai national. Or at least they have been for quite some time..

    That visa let's you stay a maximum of 90 days, then you border run to activate another 90 day stay.

    BTW: the border is NOT cracking down on people with real visas and who are crossing to activate another permission to stay. It's just about the people who live here "border bouncing" or "runnin'-4-the-border" for visa exempt stamps.

    Good Luck, give a little more information and I'm sure you'll get steered to the right answers.

    I'm such a chump. I was here for 2 years with full time Mrs and kid and didn't know about this, and kept bouncing borders with tourist visas and exemptions. I went in to Brisi office and they offered me the non-O when I went to apply for tourist visa, and then found out I could have got that inside Thailand. You should listen to TD he might be cocky and argumentative but he does know his shit. Bong On.

    In case no one noticed... I am doin' my best to be a "kinder gentler Tod Daniels"..

    Don't get me wrong, I'm still an asshole, but I'm tryin' to rein in my penchant for bashing. . . some...
