I like these visa threads so much different opinion

When I was in Nong Khai( Marriage visa O ) I needed to report to that office which I did.

When we was in Jomtien I was told I needed prove of address to do the 90 day report there which I did.

I think the bottom line is things do vary from one office to another and sometimes even one immigration officer to another.

I found advice such as the O.P is requesting best sourced at the place you intend on signing.

Seeing as there is nothing in the written regulations about which location you're compelled to do 90 day reporting to; the "un-official rule" (as in the one most places follow, especially touristy places) about it is; you must use an address in the zone you're tryin' to turn the 90 day report in at.

Now sometimes you get a persnickety full of themselves Immigrations official who wants to stonewall you by saying you hafta go back where you got your original extension of stay. However, IF you use an address in that zone in theory they have to let you report there.

    Your mileage may vary...

Being as you no longer have to fill in a TM47 form will that make any difference?

Since they went to that Zone Immigrations Policy, not every Immigrations has the bar code receipt printers installed yet, like they give you in Bangkok and some other busier offices.

Even if they did (have that bar code receipt dealy), seeing as you're trying to report in a zone where you don't get your yearly extensions or really live, the information that'd pop up on the computer screen would most likely be your real address. I think you'd have to do a TM-47 anyway to show an address for the zone you're tryin' to report in.

In Bangkok, at Lad Prao they have the bar code receipt dealy, but last time I was at Major Hollywood (two weeks ago), they didn't have it. Instead they just stamped the bottom part of the TM47 with the new 90 day report date, tore it off and gave it back like they used to do before.

    Just as an FYI;

Yesterday when I was a Lad Prao there was a guy from Hua Hin who was in line to do his 90 day report. He went thru that oh-so long wait outside only to be kicked back by the vetting staff BECAUSE he used his Hua Hin address.

I heard him complaining as he came outta the line. I told him to fill out a new form and this time use the address of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. (I told him that because I know their address).

He did it, re-queued and presto-chango he got to go in and do his 90 day report without a hiccup!!!

I think IF you use an address in the zone you're tryin' to turn your 90 day report into, that it'll fly fine, or at least it will fly fine here in Bangkok...

    Good Luck..

I was in Pattaya over the weekend and did my 90 day report on Monday morning before driving back to Surin where I live. I sent my wife in with my documents which showed my Surin address and she was in and out in ten minutes. No need for me to even show my face. Easy peasy.

Of course not. The reason she went is that I am disabled. Good enough for you?

FWIW: 90 day reports don't have to be done by you or by your thai significant other either. In fact they don't have to be done in person AT ALL..

There are a TON of places which do 90 day reporting for foreigners here in Bangkok. Most major hospitals provide this service. I've seen the same thai guyz with STACKS of passports out at immigrations time and again.

I will say Jomtien (pattaya immigrations) is a kingdom unto itself. How they do things ain't always the way Bangkok does it. So the fact that someone's thai wife breezed in to Jomtien and did a 90 day report with a Surin addy; while anecdotally interesting has very little bearing on what Bangkok immigrations does.

IF you're gonna report outside the area you live in, I'd say you're out nothing by using an address in that area. I mean for christ's sake, you're stayin' somewhere there aren't you?

Good on you that it worked, but I'd say from personal experience, don't use an out of Bangkok addy to turn in a 90 day report at either of the satellite immigrations offices here...

^^I knew a guy that couldn't go to his immigration office because of a disability. He just went to the doctors and got a letter. He was then excluded from 90 day report for 12 months.

Easy I'm not trying to pick holes here, just read and was curious as never heard of this before.

I thought the whole idea of 90 day report was for immigration to actually keep a check on you in person.

I just thought you had to sign in person whilst they match you to your passport.

From memory I'm sure they have disabled access at the side in Jomtien, but if you can get away with sending your wife without having to show your face I'm not going to argue that.

Anyone can do your 90 day report as long as they have your passport and report slip. With reporting by post your passport slip will be sent to the address registered at your office. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was never made aware of that when it mattered.

Its a wonder the immigration offices see any falang at all in that case,I would of just sent the wife down there to sort it out.

I linked up with 2 other farangs who reported on, or about, the same time. Saved on petrol, as as it's about 220km round trip for us. I actually don't think that many farang are aware of you not having to appear in person for a 90 day report. I only found out a couple of years ago.

A good friend of mine only ever went to Immigration to get his one year exemption stamp.
He never ever set foot in there again until his extension was 'up.'

Some offices wouldn't/won't accept a postal report. Mine, Kap Choeng, has just restarted to do again after a period of at least 6 years.

Only certain Immigration Offices in some zones let you report by post. Bangkok is one for sure. I'll see if I can find the list of them..

It's definitely inconvenient for people who live near an immigrations office but due to the way the imaginary line is drawn splitting up the country the close one isn't for their zone. This makes them have to go to an office miles and miles away. It's even worse when the close office in the other zone let's you post 90 day reports but the one which controls your zone doesn't...

For a while, right after Chaengwattana closed people weren't getting the receipt of report back in the mail as all of it was being held at the LakSi post office. Finally most of it got re-directed to LadPrao and receipts started trickling back to people.

I know some people who never got back their receipt of reporting, yet had to do a 90 report again. All they did was take the EMS receipt showing they did mail it within the prescribed time and they were fine..

OFF TOPIC: I'm guessing that with the military runnin' that monk outta Chaengwattana, IF thai immigrations is thinkin' of re-opening their main office any time soon, they'll start movin' the mountain of paperwork and stuff back this weekend.

I'm also sure IF they do this, they won't tell us about it until people show up at Major Suksawat or Big C LadPrao and are told Chaengwattana is open again.

Before people go to Immigration they should call the call center at 1111 and find out where they need to report.
