    Brisbane - Thai Visas

    Anyone have any experience here?

I went to Canberra last time, to the embassy, and they wanted police records, DNA sample, etc for a Non-O, and didn't have enough time, they would only give me a single entry tourist visa. I've been told they are stricter here than the consulates.

I'll be in Brisbane for a week next month.

I'd like to come out with a Non-O 1 year based on having a daughter as a Thai citizen.

At least I'd like to walk out with a triple entry tourist visa.

I will be checking the website, maybe make a call, but any info here is much apreciated.

i applied and received a six month visa through the Brisbane embassy about one year ago, i found them very easy to deal with and very quick to process paperwork.

I've got Non-O's there each year for the last 5 years. I front up with my passport, condo papers from Pattaya, photos, Thai bank book showing a 7 figure Baht balance, and have my Thai GF by my side as a backup plan in case anything goes pear shaped in the way of justifying why I should have a Non-O (which it never has).

Never seen it busy there so it's just a matter of filling out the paperwork then wandering across the road to the pub for a couple of drinks to fill in 30 mins, then go back to pick up the passport, pay, and that's the end of it. They're friendly people there and the consulate is actually only a nice house, just don't step on the little dog that's always running around!.

I agree. You fork out the dough, they provide visa. I got a Non-O there about 2 years ago. Nice people, and if you happen to see the old guy who runs it, he's interesting to chat with.
If you have time, I'd be happy to meet you for a (non-alcoholic) drink, too.

Are there age restriction, bank account records / income proof, required? Is you child's birth certificate and your passport enough?

I'm not married, in a defacto relationship by Aussie terms (together for 4 years with a kid and stable), we never did the marriage at the amphur thing as I was too lazy to do the verifitcation of me being single at the embassy, and I'm leaving for Aus. shortly.

Don't know that, I'm afraid. Can you call them via Skype ?

If not, I'd be happy to call them and ask.

    Thanks fellas, too easy!

Paid $225, showed copy of daughter's birth certificate, copy of the Mrs passport and my BKK bank statement which they said was not necessary since I have a kid. Put it in at 10 AM and picked it up at 1 PM.

Apparently you can do this in Perth too, which is not far and cheap to fly, so not a bad option given all the clamp downs with tourist visas, land crossings etc, but not sure the requirements if you don't have a Thai wife or kid.

The Brisbane Consulate used to be an honorary consul, I seem to recall. I went there many years back and it seemed to be an Aussie guy an his Thai wife running it. That was around 12 years ago though..

    Agreeing with David44 above.

No local alternative, I sent my application to Canberra 3 months ago, November 2015, single entry tourist visa took 7 business days to turn around from posting date to receiving date.

Canberra are super anal, I went there last trip in 2013 and they offered a single entry tourist visa or DNA samples and months of waiting for non-O. Just going to pop over to Savannakhet when I get back, good excuse to spend some time in their awesome casino over there.

It beats the shit out of any other border casino in Poipet, Mae Sai or Sihanoukville. It's actually not that bad, American owned and run, and they spread perhaps some of the softest texas holdem games of any casino in the world.

I thought if the banker had the same score as you that they won, but not there you keep your money, which was nice

They got the good blackjack rules too. Double on any including soft A's, and surrender for half your bet back. With perfect strategy the house edge is only 0.37%, so virtually a zero sum game. And if you play enough you get your room comped for free.

The most interesting thing was the live dealers for the online casino. It's a nice, if a bit clandestine, set up, with the biggest titted dealers. The online casino site plays live with these dealers, with a live TV news feed in the background to know it's all for real, and it strategically captures the ambience at the busiest (tiger dragon) tables in the background. I was talking to the Aussie floor gaming manager and apparently they get quite a bit of online action with this set up mopstly from Thais but also Malaysians, Vietnamese, etc. The other live online dealer set ups are pretty droll with seperate rooms that don't capture the ambience of actually being in the casino.

I didn't see any texas hold-em in there, why is that if the owner's a yank?

As for your visa from Savannakhet, they are good for 15 months if you play them right.

Not sure about that one, kids born under who's name, holed OZ citizenship/passports.
Can you show long term support, Sav is easy for wife multi O, but for kids, different story.
Been there many times, never heard of multi Os given for undocumented kids, house book has fathers name, but doesn't show support.
So I wouldn't bet on a good outcome.

I have read reports that both Vientiane and Savannakhet will only issue 90-day, single-entry, Non-Immigrant Type-O visas for foreigners for the purpose of supporting children. They do this EVEN if the foreigner has the family court document granting them parental rights!

Vientiane has gotten hard as nails and in the past has requested the thai mother (whether you're married or not) and the children be present to even issue a 90 day Non-O for supporting kids.

Both Savannakhet and Vientiane are still good places to go for year-long, multi-entry, Non-Immigrant Type-O visas based on marriage to a thai national with NO finances.

Now if you got a single 90 day Non-O for supporting kids in either of those places you could extend that 90 days by an additional 60 days at your local immigration office for the purpose of "visiting family" for 1900baht. That'd give you 5 months anyway..

Yeah I get my non-O based on marriage, ended up getting married romantically at the amphur office for the purpose of getting a visa. Like TD said the first time I tried at savannakhet I only got single entry non-O for kids. Brisbane previously gave me 1 year multi entry for kids.

Dill they actually have 2 texas holdem tables and a dealer sitting at one all the time even if no one is playing.

For those of you who can remember the halcyon days of Thaivisa when Dr. Pat Pong littered the site with his acerbic one-liners, it may be of interest to learn that it was he, real name William Dunn, who ran the Thai Consulate in Brisbane for all those years before its eventual closure occasioned by blackmail threats from his former mentor and employer Lars Jannsen aka 'George', the previous owner of Thaivisa.

Andrew Drummond's site has the story.

Quite amusing how those sappy mods at TV actually thought they were going to get shares in George's empire.

I actually met the guy during one visa run. We had a brief chat and he seemed a very personable bloke with a wry sense of humour, who you wanted to have more of a conversation with.

I also got the strong impression he was very well-connected back in Thailand.
