    Overstay

I know it has been discussed before... but, maybe....

...can long-term overstays be only cleared "in bkk" or is it possible to show up at ANY LAND BORDER to get through?

    for leaving by PLANE
...when going to a thai airport with a domestic ticket and an onward ticket, but separate ones, does this mean trouble?
example: domestic airport 1 --flight to-- domestic airport 2 --flight to-- intl destination...
in this case, when "handing yourself in" at domestic airport 1 you cant get any "clearance", as they wont you stamp out before definitely boarding an intl flight... ? and most likely one wont be able to check in for a domestic flight with a fat overstay...?

    tia!

On a domestic flight you need only to show a pitcure ID, not neccesary a passport. They will not know you are on an over stay or not. When going through immigration it's up to them at that time. In the past pay the fine and carry on. Now it's not a ure thing. You could get locked up. Either way one should avoid an overstay at all costs.

^ Yep - How long. sounds like a touch of fear in the OP about getting caught before being ready to leave.

Domestic, if you have photo ID, you will be fine. Some carriers will want to see a passport of a farang although I have used an ID card from another country in the past. You will not go near immigration so even using your passport might be OK. However, depending upon the amount of overstay, if that nab you on a domestic flight as opposed to you handing yourself in at swampy leaving the country, I think I am right in saying that you would be arrested and chucked in immigration jail prior to being booted out.
It sounds though like you are on an Island, hopping to swmapy, changing flights to leave. If that is the case, you can just show the tickets if you get caught before you exit - have a print out from the gov website on overstays to show as well; at least it sort of backs up that you were going to exit and address the issue.

I would suggest that you go to the airport with your 20 000 Baht and go through immigration 12 hours before your departure time . Just in case you have a problem, you have some time to sort it out .
If theres a problem, you may miss your flight, if theres no problem, you just have 10 hours in departures to kill .

No - yo uwill be arrested and chucked in immigration jail.

the only way to clear a big over stay is to leave on an international flight from anywhere that has immigration. As mentioned, Slap had a couple of years worth. Just pay your money and you are on the flight. Any other route will see you in side if it is a big one.

when arriving 12 hours prior to departure, then you might go to the immigration office, but you cant check in that early, and so you cant get into a "secure area"...

does one then get detained temporariily at some facility, after reporting the overstay - until its possible to check in to the flight ?

It can go both ways, out the door into the plane home or thru the door to jail, but why would they want to feed you?
but having said that it is very rare the latter way
a fella from Israel that lives not far from me, come 15 years ago to Thailand decided to go home two months ago, for the first time,
we know each other for 5 years but i never new he had no visa, hes old, cant speak much English either, came to see me and ask for advise,
i looked at the other dark forum(you know the one)
there was a thread about overstay,
    basically
    1-dress smart, and be apologetic
2- get 20.000 ready for the fine
3- make sure you have a ticket home
4-don't be a cnut to them, because after all, weather you like Thailand or not you overstayed.
and go in early very early.

    My mate, yea no problem,
paid the fine and left, already changed name , and he will come back in two month's, will he get in? to be seen
    Sorry about me horrible speling

Secondly, my overstay was one thousand, two hundred and NINETY NINE days.

Did you see what I did there?

I essentially used pricing psychology to baffle the immigration officer at the airport.

    1300 days = you're getting banged up
1299 = go on then sonny - run along..

A conversation with the officer on duty inevitably ensued..

    Slap: I have an overstay

    Immigration officer: How long?

Slap: Well, it certainly isn't as long as 1300 days - I'm certainly not that irresponsible and disrespectful!

IO: So how long is it?

    Slap: 1299 days.

IO: Go on then, sonny - run along..
I am not sure if you will be allowed to turn around and come straight back though.

Bad suggestion because you need to check-in for your flight before you go through immigration. And the check-in will not be open, so you will be sitting around for fcking hours for nothing.

Nope...Whether you report it or not doesn't matter. They will tell you that you must check-in for your flight first and deal with immigration after.

Calling Slap - where art thou?

Anyway, How long have you over stayed then?

Also, remember, they want your cash and you on a plane and fecked off as quick as possible unless you really took the piss. 3 hrs prior is all you can do, and expect a small delay.

I checked-in about 90 minutes before my flight. The overstay payment procedure took about five minutes.

I think you can fly straight back into the Kingdom after a long overstay.

    Why do I think this?

Because I've jolly well done it before.

Bit of a twat when it comes to visas, me..
