    Visa Trip Advice, please

I'll be coming up to the new legal limit of stay soon, and wondering about the situation for obtaining a single or double Tourist Visa in neighbouring countries.
Any up-to-date info on the Vientiane and Saigon Thai Consulate policy? Been told to get lost in Vientiane a few years ago, but heard they issue again no prob now, Saigon were a bit fussy, i.e. had to prove I had money, but were ok, also a few years ago.

Anyone been to either of these recently, or what about Phnom Phen, Manila?

I am married and have been for 6 years and they tell me to stick with the retired visa, also have a brit friend that had a married, they own chicken and pig farm and a lot of land and he switched last year back to retired, said it was easier, so I don't know.
But I got my O in Vientaine and had it activated to retired visa in CM. and I renew in CM yearly with no problems, takes about 1/2 hour usually.

I don't know your status Stroller but it was easy to get my O in vientaine.

I am after a 2 month tourist visa, too young for retirement and not married.
Usually I get a triple tourist in Germany on my yearly visit and then walk for the 30 days stamp until the year is up, sometimes getting tourist visas during stays in other countries. But this has gotten more difficult in the past few years, and I am not up to date with changes since the coup in Thailand (re. issueing tourist visas).

I guess the best place to look for this info is still TV, if I could be bothered to wade through endless repetitive threads where every halfwit adds their 'opinion'.

Has she stayed in Thailand for an extended period though, or was it a first time visa run?

I used to go there for a 60 day tourist with a 30 add on and never had any trouble with it, took an overnite stay, put in for it before noon and pick it up the next day before noon, well I always paid the guys out in front 1000 baht and they did it for me and delivered my visa to my hotel.
I will check and see what I can find and let ya know..

When was this? The fees are more now. Sending someone else in was stopped and policy for longtimers changed, I think it was 4 years ago, when they moved to the new building? Haven't been back there since.

Doesn't look good at all: "90 days wait period abroad", "If you already have a few stamps you may be cut off".
But then, this is a commercial site offering visa services.

They will get your visa if you want a long stay, but those are just the posted rules, and the wait after 3 is for the visa on demand or on entry,Like you went to Mai Sai and walked over and back and got it at the border issued by Thai Immigration, Has nothing to do with embassy issued visas. that has naught to do with tourist visas, you go out, get a new issue and come back.

If the tourist visas were included in that you could stay 9 months and be out for 90 days, it states 3-30 day=90 and then out for 90.
Read on down in the link to the Nong Khai paragraph.

You can do 3 30 day entries and then just get a tourist visa.

Yes, but where is a good place to get it?
I'd be fekked if they'd refuse!

The new rules are a mess and I don't understand them at all

I have some Swedish friends staying here over winter, 5 month actually.
They have double tourist visas, ie 2*60 days so they need one 30 day extension as well.
They were advised by the issuing embassy to do the visa trip after 60 days and do the extension when the last visa stay was about to end.

The conclusion I can draw from that, is that an extension to the 1st visa would have cancelled the 2nd visa. ???

No, it wouldn't cancel it. Don't know why they would "advise" this.

Well, that's also what I told them, but they still insisted that they had to do it in that order. And did it..
Hopefully the embassy has been better informed now, those visas were issued in of October, about at the same time as the new rules came.

The info your friends have is correct i had the same visa and have just returned.
The stamp into thailand is for 60 days then a visa run for another 60 days.
They can then go to immigration and get a 30 day extension of stay for 1,900 bht or do a visa run and come back in on a tourist visa.

The double entry visa has to be used within a certain amount of days, could be 60, so on day 59 you do a a visa run and come in on your second visa, my mate a few weeks ago got caught up in the 90 days thingy on arrival, he was given 6 days I believe, just got a flight to Singapore and got a tourist visa and came back.

Yes, but what puzzles me is why they were told to do the extension on the 2nd visa and not on the 1st one.
I've had the same visa many years ago and did extension on both of them.

But, as DD says, it could be that the expiry date would have been due for the 2nd one if they extended the 1st one.

You can get an extension on any Tourist visa, but as anything here IT IS UP TO THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL WHETHER THEY WILL ISSUE OR NOT!!!

This has ALWAYS been the case.

Penang will issue a single entry tourist visa.

If you want a multiple entry non-imm B, send me a PM.

Correct, but this period is 180 days from the date of issue for a dbl entry, so usually plenty of time to get an extension on either or both visas.
As said already, the extension is discertioary, this may explain the embassy's advice. Embassies go stricter by the book than Consulates, btw.

The immigration office in BKK sure does not go by the printed rules, and we contacted the minister of immigration and he says that each office and each officer is autonomous and can do just about as they please as to issue of visas and rules to adhere to..
