    Mistakenly obtained Visa

a friend went to Myanmar on a Visa run to get a 15 day Visa, but they mistakenly gave him a three month Visa , they mistakenly thought that he had a re entry Visa.
Should he leave leave in three months, when the Visa expires or leave in two weeks?
Is the three month Visa valid , even if it was given mistakenly?

If it is noticed when he leaves then immigration will say that it's his fault and hit him with 75 days overstay.

Yes, immigration officials are not responsible for any of the many mistakes they make.

You, the paying user of the service will be held fully responsible for any errors, and may be put to great inconvenience and expense as you try to seek help in rectifying their negligence.

It pays to check every visa, and every stamp, every extension, from embassies, border officials, airports and immigration offices.......... and make sure the official has put the little squiggle of a signature to the stamp too. The stamp can be deemed invalid without it.

    I speak from experience.

he hasn't got a visa, he has a permission to stay, and that would be 15 days

the immi guy picked up the wrong date stamp, that's all, but that date would only be valid in conjunction with a visa

he can try his luck, but it would probably cost him
    I have reported your post

Ouch. Here is My experience. I was a newbie on Koh Samui,my one month tourist visa was due to expire. Being unsure of Asia I did not want to leave the comfort of the tourist zone. I heard about the old expats that paid for extensions. I paid 5000bt for a visa run,3 days later I got my passport back with another one month visa. (10 year ago) After one month I went to immigration in BKK to get a 7 day extension. I was interviewed on the 4th floor by 6 immigration officers sitting over a long table."Is this your passport" "Yes" "Have you been to Malaysa? "No" "We know that, these stamps are forgeries" Ouch . The immigration computer had no record of me leaving Thailand.

Getting the wrong "permission to stay until" stamp in a passport is nothing new. Your "friend" isn't the first foreigner this has happened to in the history of Thailand.

In fact, there are so many "stamp corrections" that Thai Immigrations out at the Government Complex on Chaengwattana Road in Bangkok has an entire "section" devoted to just correcting wrong permission to stay until stamps.

It is totally the responsibility of the passport holder to check the stamp they receive is correct when they're stamped into Thailand. It is, as another poster pointed out; the Border Check-point person simply picked up the wrong stamp off the desk.

I'd imagine ANY Thai Immigration office would correct the error with a 14 day land border crossing "visa exempt" permission to stay stamp (which would be dated the day the passport holder entered the country).

It's free to fix "wrong stamps" so there's no down side to getting it done. The down side to thinking it "might work" and not be caught leaving Thailand is the potential for a hefty overstay fine. Thankfully the overstay fine caps out at 20K baht (500 baht per day for every day overstayed up to a maximum of 40 days). After 40 days, you could in theory stay 40 years and still have to pay the same overstay fine when you leave.

I'd go get the stamp corrected...
