E-Dict talking electronic dictionary?

Has anyone got any experience with these?
Unfortunately in standard farsighted Thai fashion their web site is only in Thai
Maybe I'll have to be the test monkey.

Got one !
The bloody instruction book is also in Thai!!!
After 3 months of emails and phone calls trying to get one in English from the distributors I gave up and gave the thing to a Thai friend !!

They are a good idea but service backup is non existant !!

Can't you copy out/type the instructions into the dictionary to hear them back in perfect English?

That's what e-dicts are made for innit - translating.

I guess I'll have to go a sit down with it for a while at Tesco before I buy.

BTW the new Tesco in Ranong rocks.

If it was made in Thailand then it is a piece of junk and so if you want one, buy it no matter because it will not run long enough to worry about and any guarentee is null and void as soon as you walk out of the shop with it.

One of my SIL's has one and a few of the local shops keep one under the counter. They are great for Thai people to use but rubbish, IMHO, for an English person. You don't really need the instruction book, unless you want to programe stuff into the memory. The range of onboard information is 'interesting', but no substitute for a handfull of lessons. Good for practicing your tones though.

I bought mine 'cos I have had an early version English- Mandarin - Mandarin - English one for about 9 years with no problem - made and bought in Taiwan with multii language instruction book. It is about as big as a Video tape case and weighs around a kilo .

They seem to have developed miniturisation (sp) to the product and service backup !!

Use Besta pocket translator

I use a Besta pocket translator. It is a replacement for my e-dict that quit working. Will speak words in Thai that are typed in English Translates 7 languages, has encyclopedia, calendar, Stores photos and music. Mp3 player, Plays video clips, Radio, Windows Paint, stores phone numbers, to do list, touch screen and stylus, flash player, conversions for currency and temps and measures and a lot more that I can't think of right now.

It is a little pricey but I like it. It is made in China and sold In most large department stores here. Check it out Comes with a CD with instructions and English and USB computer interface. About the same size as the e-dict with beautiful color screen.
