Ask Smeg.
Desperation.
We stopped off at the Chill n Grill in Paragon for lunch and over half the tables were people tutoring others, mostly being a table or booth of 4 with one empty coke cup between them, then us paying customers have to struggle in to find a place to sit on a small little table.
One lad even had his bag of dunkin' donuts up on the table having a munch.
Typical Thai management, sorry, retardation.
Mickey D's is a regular spot for tutoring, it seems. Seen it going on many times there, usually by some poor TEFLer desperate for his 200 baht an hour earnings. Not sure why they would choose such a place with all the noise and kiddies around; surely there are more quieter restaurants?
Free Wi-Fi and aircon may have something to do with it.
nice there are no loitering laws here. Many times the kids have wanted lunch in the Siam area, especially Dairy Queen Grill. Never can get a seat even though there is nobody eating just studying.
So I asked the manageress who spoke English well if we could move somebody so we could eat.
"No the tables are occupied was the answer". I replied " But they are not eating and they are tutoring, we want to buy a nice lunch and have a place to sit". " I am sorry sir but they ate and are now studying". Jesus Christ got on the sky train and went for a better meal at Beirut on Sukumvit. Never back to that place again.
Siam Square/Center/Paragon is a student area. All the fast food joints target the student demographic. If you want peace and quiet aim little higher with your restaurant choice.
^ 2nd floor?
^ that can't be right; Starbucks on the fifth floor is full of students studying too...
:) Well now, just get down to the important matter...where there any decent looking Thai girls among those "students"?
Actually my 17 year old Thai granddaughter is beng "tutored" in English right now as prep for her university entrance exams.
So all you "English teachers"...be careful. I may know where you live.
For one thing, she only turned 17 three days ago.
(That's a joke, guys)
:)
Last time I called in to a drug store there was some guy giving one-to-one lessons to a small girl, probably about 8 y/o, just behind the counter. I wasn't too sure which one to feel sorry for.
When I did private tutoring there was none of this loitering shit going on. Went into the apartment, met the mother, then tutored her son or daughter for the next hour or so. Was the best situation, really. Who can study or teach with all that noise?
