I tell thee what, if a honky teacher tried that he would be hung up by his gonads to dry. I used to have a plastic gun lying on my desk with which I used to threaten miscreants. Luckily everyone had a sense of humour so I was not hauled before the beak and read the riot act.

Sadly what she did still ruins the whole class in the sense that there will be very little real learning done afterwards.
The rudeness and selfishness of adults with cell phones is often amazing and disgusting, so it's difficult to expect children to be much better. Still, very funny.
the Thai school I teach at is one of a very few where 6-11 year olds are allowed to have cellphones at school, but each child knows what happens if it goes off in class. In 3 years, only 1 has ever sounded during my class.

Bloody good on her as I have had student /seminars where the students want to dictate what they see as their rights as having a telecom discussion for 10 minutes with no regard for switch off mobiles before meeting.

Good old fashioned discipline.

She sure got his attention and definitely no more interrupting phone calls....well at least during that lesson.

Bloody great, I once told a student off for using the phone. The so called teacher had held up the class so she could carry on talking, soft as shit idiot. She thought I was the rude one for telling her to turn it off. This is the way to go! But what about the student filming it, why no phone or camera on the floor for them?

They should really hand the damn things in at the start of a lesson, or have a rule that anyone using a phone in a lesson gets and automatic ban for a length of time, just inexcusable rudeness.

Awful teaching technique. Letting bad behaviour run to the point where you go completely mental is always a terrible idea. She should have made it clear in the first lesson that this was unacceptable and then acted the second he answered.

I'm sure there must be a machine that will block telephone signals within a set distance. Problem solved. Or am I thinking James Bond ?
I just Googled and apparently there are. So why don't schools buy a few ?

how do we know she did not make it clear from the start? could have been one of many phones going off in the same lesson, she could have already warned him. I don't think she went mental, you can't let them get away with it or you have had it.

I don't know what she has said to the students previously but if she had already told them that the use of mobiles in the class was not acceptable, she should have acted - calmly - as soon as he broke the rule and you can see that she didn't do that. It's obviously shitty teaching and there are obviously far more productive ways of dealing with this problem, which is possibly one of the reasons why taking students' possessions and destroying them is not, as far as I'm aware, a classroom management technique taught on most education programmes.

These videos while amusing, are staged. However, I agree with Dan, it should be up to teacher to sort it out earlier. If a teacher did that to my children, the school would hear about it.

The clip was from a university, not a secondary school. Uni kids should know better.

One thing for sure, none of this teacher's students will forget to switch off before entering her class. Mission accomplished!

I just tell my students my wife is looking for a new mobile phone, and if I see or hear one during my class, that'll save me the trouble of buying her one.
