    finding invigilation services in BKK

    hi gang,

I was not sure where it was best to post this question, so I hope this forum is fine.

I will be coming to LOS to live, and almost all of my arrangements have been addressed and taken care except for one--until I take the time to think of more I am sure.

I am currently studying distance courses from a Canadian University, Athabasca University, that has no problem with me studying and taking exams abroad. However, I need to find a qualified invigilator whom I can make arrangements to administer my exams through.

As a last resort I can use the Canadian embassy, but that would certainly be a last resort as I am sure they will likely fleece me good for this kind of service.

So I still need to get absolute details, but as far as I understand they will accept anyone in the teaching profession currently working at a school, with access to a computer and the Internet, and who can communicate in English.

I did get an idea to check and see if language schools would qualify, as most schools are pretty aggressive about finding new clientèle, and this should be fairly easy work for them.

I was wondering if anyone else has had to try and set something like this up before, or has any good ideas or suggestions for me?

    cheers,
    tt

I have no idea how you're going to do what you ask.

I would, however, suggest that the word you now need to use is 'supervise', as 'invigilate' (& 'proctor') are outdated words.

Does your university require supervised examinations?

Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Taiwan are three locations in Asia I know for sure that students from my University are studying abroad successfully. So what I am asking advice about cannot be so "out there" that nobody in Bangkok has any ideas how this could be possible. Well actually I am sure it is possible, I am just searching for the possibilities. Unfortunately, there have been no students from my university studying abroad in Bangkok/Thailand before, so I need to try and find qualified individuals that meet the criteria to, yes supervise exams.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

    cheers,
    tt

I'm sure for a fee, most Universities in Bangkok would provide someone to supervise your exams.

"British Council Thailand provides invigilation services for students registered with UK schools, colleges and universities, who need to take examinations but are not able to travel to the UK."

    Thanks guys,

exactly the kind of info I am looking for. I will get in touch with the British Council, even though my uni is Canadian, and see what they say. At the very least I hope to get a good idea of what the costs for such services might be.

I think it would also work for any teacher currently working at a school in LOS to provide this service for some extra dosh.

    cheers,
    tt

How often do you have to do exams,
if its not that often, I recommend going to Taiwan as a holliday, and do the exam while you are there, airfare around $200 with KLM. I just got back from there, loved it.

not at all. the International Baccaleaurate uses invigilate for every school that uses its programme around the world.

my advice is visit whichever international school is closest to you, and just ask.....

I know I had a teacher from NIST (sukhumvit soi 15) invigilate an exam I did a number of years back for my masters degree.
