    Diploma-Degree mills

A friend of mine, whose been teaching here for many years and really works hard in his job to make his kids learn
Well his school who he's been working for for 2yrs asked him to stay on but he wanted to get a visa and WP, cause things are getting harder at the borders for long stayers. The school said that they needed him to have a degree for a WP, then they mentioned getting one from the internet!

He got one and hey presto visa and WP last year, no prob's...

Now the dilemma..he's just gone to another school and they said to him that they will need to send his papers to Bangkok for checking, not at the local labour offices.

So his problem is that he's worried they'll find out it's a 'life degree' his girlfriends expexting their 1st child and he's worried about being kicked out of the country....are his choices unemployment or is it wide spread that this will be the case for all degrees to be scrutinised in future...

And I'm sure this may affect a few people in the LOS?????

My mate said a funny thing to me regarding this "Simon do you remember your teachers from school" "Yes...and some of them were complete w*nkers" "Did you like or learn much in their classes" "No, not really" "well my thai kids love me, and work hard and enjoy the class"

I do feel really sorry for him as there aren't many other options for him apart from working illegally, and he doesn't want to risk going back to that.

So does anyone know if this is to be come standard across the board or if he can move somewhere else in thailand and not get caught as it were.

P.S I know he should've stayed at his old school...but hey them's the dice.

He won't post on ajarn.com cos he's on there and his Thai teaching mates use the forum...hence his post on TL.

    cheers for any ideas.

Who cares. He has built his house on sand. It's his own fault for cheating. Now he stands to get caught. Go back to wherever you came from, get a degree ans come back and do it properly.

Dead easy to do too. If it's European/Aus/NZ or Canadian it's (well it was 4 years ago) just an email or a phone call.

A tad harsh there Jandajoy, the poor guy's sat next to me...He has been teaching here for many yrs and no one was bothered that he didn't have a degree before..

His degree is from America and it has a website address of the "Uni" on it for them to go to for verification so he's hoping they'll just do that...

" my mate say's yes he's sorry, he didn't have the opportunity to spend 3-4yrs not working in England, possibly living with his family or off there money..he had to live in the real world and work to pay his mortgage etc to eat"
    you judgemental git...

Sorry bout this jandajoy I'm not getting involved..told him he's gotta set up his own TL name thing and shit so he can post himself, and fight onm his own time.

    Other suggestions are also welcome.
    thank you

Stupid things you wouldnt do in your home country but would do in Thailand #37:

"Get girlfriend pregnant whilst working illegaly with no clear plan on how to support said child in the future if current situation changes"

    Way to go!

LMAO, Who the hell get's to do that? I worked my way through Uni. No parental backing whatsoever, just held down lots of shitty jobs. Not judgemental, statement of fact. He cheated and now he's possibly going to get caught. Shit happens.

Sorry about JJ talking out of his arse and being obviously clueless about the level of English in most Thai schools and the positive effect that having a dedicated person in the classroom has.

If your mate doesn't succeed in getting work with that school with his dodgy 'degree' he should go back to working how he did before. From what others have said, these 'life-experience' degrees seem to work though, so hopefully he'll be OK. The only thing to do is wait & see.

Do me a favour mate. Don't apologise. After 30 years I reckon I've got a bit of a view.

    Dedication's great.

    Happy happy.

"Teaching" is a somewhat different kettle of fish.

" All the kids like me."

    who gives?

    "the parents are really friendly"

    so what ?

What educational outcome did you achieve?

What plans did you put into place and what results did you get? Other than "they liked you........"

    Sorry chaps, you're talking shite.

Seeking to simply justify cheating and falsification to get a job to support you and your partner who've bred.

^ Until you stop comparing the teaching of English in a western country to Thailand, you're just talking bollocks.

    He's a loser.

If you teach English on fake papers don't knock your girlfriend up. I don't care about "accidents" That's B.S.

Maybe this fraud should go back to his home-country and get a real job.

Since he knocked up his Thai GF, he can marry her, and later bring her back to his country, or he can leave her and financially support his kid.

Either, the guy is a fool.

He's an idiot. Irresponsible, stupid, careless and immature. Who, through his idiotic actions has created a life time of grief, for himself, though he probably doesn't care, his girl friend, she'll work it out, and the kid.

Thank God /Buddha that the extended Thai family will probably cover his mistakes.

But he's not a loser, 'cos I'll bet a pound to a penny he'll end up doing a runner.

From what your saying above let's think of another term to describe him than the word loser.

some of what you say rings true.

the callousness that you exhibit towards this fellow is particularly harsh.

In decent schools, there is no question, we need experienced, qualified teachers only.

In a smaller english teaching school in bangkok.... perhaps things might be different.

a degree is a degree. You either spend 3/4 years getting it or you buy it of the net. Pretty black and white to me.

i'm talking about your comment that you've never cheated.

never paid a thai copper a bribe?

never driven your car without seat belt?

    etc.

Drivel KW and you know it.

We're talking about falsifying your qualifications to do a job with kids.

however, FYI nope, never bribed a cop and never wear a seat belt. What the fok that's got to do with OP is beyond me. Do try and keep things in context.
