    Morals...WTF????

Last week, I had one of my Thai teacher friends ask me to help her with checking the English content of a document.
The document was all about "morals" & "ethics".

Basically, the teacher who wrote the document was "reporting" on the abovementioned subjects (morals & ethics). The report indicated the results of a 1 year survey that was conducted at my place of work. There was no mention of GPA's or other "grade" related material.

Upon witnessing such a report, I feel that it reaffirms my concept that the Thai education system will not progress until they actually start to concentrate on education "results". Also, I would guess that such stupid & wasteful avenues will not be curtailed until the "old" generation of teachers either dies or retires.

Has anybody else witnessed such stupid & wasteful activities?
Oh for fucks sake! Get a life & stop trying to fuck mine up!

Do you live in Thailand? Are you a teacher? If you answer "yes" to both of these questions, why do you ask such a question?

not allowed to discuss sex, even in science or health classes.

(18 kids are unsure how they may or may not get pregnant, eg: can i get pregnant if semen soaks through my jeans, can i get pregnant through a blowjob? )

not allowed to discuss harmful effects of drugs (just say no!)

    May I add;

Not allowed to have hair of an "unacceptable" length (whatever that is?!)

Not allowed to have "seemingly" unclean clothes (many poor students have stained shirts. They are vilified for this. On many occasions, they end up leaving the education system).

Are allowed to gouge huge lumps of snot from their noses whenever & wherever they please.

Are not allowed to pick food from their teeth unless the mouth is covered.

Are allowed to hack, cough & sneeze all over anybody.

Are allowed to blow snot from their noses whenever & wherever they wish (block one nostril & blow out to clear the free nostril).

Are allowed to spit wherever & whenever they please.

Not allowed to drink alcohol, even though they are over 18 years old.

    Are not dissuaded from littering.

So, how are kids supposed to learn and be educated about this subject matter?

Their parents certainly wouldn't be any great help either.

Has anyone asked the education ministry that?

    tell me about it.

Apparently the social services unit at our school teach them all they need to know about that.

(dont even mention condoms or tampons.....using a tampon might mean you lose your virginity)

this same social services unit that teaches that one of the differences between men and women during puberty is that men get strong sexual urges....

    True story.

My wife and I use to work together in an international school in two different roles. I taught elementary and the wife was/is basically the liason person.

So my former students would grow to be typical teenagers, well whatever that is. At this point the parents would telephone. Just yesterday, I had an email from a Japanese father asking me what to do about his daughter. It seems my former 9-year old student was now sneaking about and playing on the net until well after midnight. What to do?

Common sense should tell you what I told the parent. He then came back and stated that he was afraid to turn off the daughter's computer as she might not like him.

On a more personal note, after my daughter lied about her homework yesterday, her TV, WII and radio was turned off.

Different set of ethics and morals I guess. Having said that, I am probably not the typical American parent and hopefully all Asian parents would realize that being a friend is not always being a parent.

Being a good parent first is the best friend a kid will ever have.
